The Qur'an contains both injunctions to respect other religions, and to fight and subdue unbelievers during war. Some Muslims have respected Jews and Christians as fellow people of the book (monotheists following Abrahamic religions), while others have reviled them as having abandoned monotheism and corrupted their scriptures. At different times and places, Islamic communities have been both intolerant and tolerant. Support can be found in the Qur'an for both attitudes.

The classical Islamic solution was a limited tolerance — Jews and Christians were to be allowed to privately practice their faith and follow their own family law. They were called dhimmis and paid a special tax called the jizya, since the zakat paid by Muslims was not compulsory on them. The status of dhimmis is a matter of dispute, with some claiming that dhimmis were persecuted second-class citizens, and others that their lot was not difficult.

The medieval Islamic state was often more tolerant than many other states of the time which insisted on complete conformity to a state religion. The record of contemporary Muslim-majority states is mixed. Some are generally regarded as tolerant, while others have been accused of intolerance and human rights violations.

One of the open issues is the claim from hardline Muslims that once a certain territory has been under 'Muslim' rule, it can never be relinquished anymore, and that such a period of islamic rule would give the Muslims an eternal right on the claimed territory. This claim is particularly controversial with regard to Israel and to a lesser degree Spain and parts of the Balkan.

First I would like to say I am a christian and will remain one until the day I die. However, Islam is a good religion and I know some Muslims who are very good people. Muslims believe in peace and love just like us however their religion has been hijacked by radical extremists. In earlier years of Islam whabbism, which is the religion practiced by Osama Bin-Laden and Al-Queda, was considered an abomination and were severly persecuted. However, the Saudi Arabian royal family allowed people to practice it so they would have less trouble ruling. This was because of greed. They let the people practice this religion and in exchange there was an understanding that the radicals would not cause problems for the ruling family. It has now gotten out of hand and this is why Saudi Arabia is in such dire straits. Whabbism is a cruel form of Islam and they have taken the Quran and perverted the word of God according to their religion. In the Quran, Christians and Jews are considered "of the book". They are not to be persecuted in any means. It is against Islam to kill innocent people even during times of war. This is why Hezbollah and the Palestinians hate Al-Queda because of September 11, 2001. Before he was killed, the terrorist Al-Zarqawi was very critical of Hezbollah because they prevent Al-Queda from bringing their kind of war to the Holy Land. Hezbollah calls itself "the party of God" but Al-Queda calls them "the party of the Devil". Both brands of Islam, although I do not consider Al-Queda to be Islamic, are both oppressive religions. However, there are many moderates and if they can join together they can defeat this ideological nightmare.

Islam is not a religion, it is the subtle ascent of peace of self and assertiveness of commitment. It can be deemed as a plan, you are a curious one, you are good too, if you want to know more, perhaps it is time to find out everything is enchanting but not all is true, such is the life we lauch our selfs into, some are true and great, some are little and brittle, yet still good. We are not to blame others for anguish or diminishing character, if one is untrue we all help, that is the way of our characters, not of nature or help, so some say nature needs help, that is true, nobody really misconstrues or want to lie, but some are covered into debt and need it a little further so the one they need to pay later is termed as a good person, they are to become family later, so the little perpetrators are neither liars nor unproper, many are to learn this, others do not need to, yet are being patient to their future families and are earning some shape too, if you know what I mean, America does owe bigtime to Iraq and others who help with no need for it, so lets be sharp and righteous too, if one owes for too long then error appears, and some, specially in America are in error. Forbidance pattern is not a proper trait.

It appears to be effective. I prefer the idealistic Catholic/Christian religions. I think in many ways Islam rolls backward from the pinnacle of the new testament. Of course, they worship the Creator (God) and that is likely enough.

The difference between for Islam and Judaism and Christianity is Jesus. That's about it. The concept of what God is and what He is like is apparently the same, to the most "enlightened" spiritual people of all three religions. Jew reject Jesus as Messiah. Muslims reject Jesus as God, but accept Him as Messiah. Christians accept Jesus as both. People will site verses form all the religions to seperate the, but, in reality, to those who know nothing of God, but have studied Him intensely there is a concensus on what God is like, but not exactly how to worship Him.

Maybe its all just salt.

Unlike the little children's minds that belittle you. that is a good question. The answer is not as easy as asking the question. Sarcastically he answered as good as any other and that is probably true. You need to research the religions and find the one that fits you and feels the best. You need to find the one that you can follow. All of the religions have their good points and their bad but a religion requires humans and they can give a religion a bad reputation. good luck

Islam is the very nature of man. It is the religion and the path chosen by Almighty Allah for mankind so that they may gain happiness in this life and Paradise in the next life. Islam is not a religion in the common and distorted sense, for it does not confine its scope to one's private life. It is a complete way of life and is present in every field of human existence. Islam provides guidance for all aspects of life—individual and social, material and moral, economic and political, legal and cultural, and national and international. The teachings of Islam are simple and intelligible.

At the moral level, Islam teaches us to be truthful, honest, just, compassionate, virtuous; to shun all evils; to be ever bent on doing good deeds while sparing others of any harm or injury. Stated differently, it teaches us to think right, speak right, and act righteously.

At the spiritual level, Islam teaches cultivation of mindfulness of God—being grateful to Him, patient in adversity, and content with His decree and ever willing to make our will conform to His will.
