Close your eyes. For 10 seconds imagine a world where the Charles Darwin never introduced the Theory of Evolution. Imagine no one ever considered it.
What would 2006 be like? What would medicine be like.

Open your eyes and type what you saw in your vision.

We'd have no understanding of genetic diseases whatsoever.

There would be a lot less ape $hit...and then one's thinking can move beyond Evolution to the core of the matter. We evolve. We do not remain stagnant...Evolution is Creation. I do not get mired in evolutionary origin...for it all began somewhere...and when added to other concepts, it begins to make sense. I find it only adds to the broader picture and is conducive to further and more expanded thinking on the matter. To answer your question...Darwin's Theory only opened the door to all possibility... and our present world would exist with or without it.

Added: Why does it have to be one over another, when the broader concept includes ALL?

Apparently there was a guy who had reached the same conclusions as Darwin at roughly the same time. Between that guy and Mendel I wouldn't be surprised if the theory would be developed.
Even if those two didn't bring it up, then someone else probably would have many years ago. Nevertheless Darwin's contribution to science is a great and innovative one.

Not much different. Three other men were concocting some form of evolutionary theory at about the same time as Darwin, and they probably wouldn't have twisted to be as anti-Christian as Darwin and Huxley presented it.

It's tragic. Have you ever read QB VII, by Leon Uris? It's all about using the research from Nazi concentration camps, and the relevant ethics. I'll take the medicine, and watch NASA launches, but don't ask me the thank the scientist.

I see Salem, Massachusetts in the year 1692. I see religion and government indistinguishable. I see no technology.. Scarlett Fever, Smallpox, Typhoid, Tuberculosis run rampant still because science and the promotion of science would be evil and punishable.

Are you hoping God uses the internet? I couldn't even consider the answer in 10seconds let alone visualise it! Interesting question with a lot of debateable material perhaps we would have reached the outer universe by now, who knows?

Well, Jim, I saw your grandfather Charles sitting on a stool in the backyard telling stories of life and love and how wonderful it would be if all men did not hate, cheat, lie and kill in the name of ..... (don't want to get reported)

I probably wouldn't be a nurse, I would probably be pushing a cart yelling "bring out your dead, bring out your dead".
I should never answer questions while watching Monty Python!

Actually when I closed my eyes and truly thought about it, I was actually pretty frightening. Where would we be? Certainly not here.
