I don't really want to bleach it first as i'm afraid that will hurt my hair.
But i really want to dye my hair. I've tried, LIVE, nicky clark and L'oreal. I can't think of anything else.
How can i lighten my hair without damaging it?

Hi im sorry but there is no other way of lightening your hair, other than bleach and no matter what anyone says bleach does wreck your hair, especially the home highlightening kits, trust me ive bleached my hair loads of times coz it was cheaper than getting it done at the hairdressers, and i ended up with dry brittle hair itwas a right state. The best thing to do it get it done at the hairdressers and keep going for root touch ups in stead of hightlighting your whole hair again, thats the mistake i did. The other thing you could try is them new hairdyes for dark hair they lighten them without an orange effect, they dont nessecary make your hair go really blonde like highlightening but it does make it like a light brown. Its made by feria. And its kind to your hair just make sure you get the one for dark hair and not just a regular feria hairdye.

I suggest that you go to a hairdresser, they can analyse your hair (e.g texture, exact shade of your natural colour, strength of your hair etc.) and they can give you some advice on what to do or suggest some products.
They could probably do it for you or suggest a product to protect your hair and keep it healthy if you have to bleach it.
If your hair is really dark you probably will have to bleach it, that's what I had to do, but if you take care of your hair then it will look and feel healthy.
Your hair is constantly being damaged anyway from things such as pollution, central heating and blow drying it.
Have a chat with your hairdresser, they'll know exactly what you need.

I had the same problem... my hair is very dark and thick so bleaching it was not a problem, if your hair is the same texture then it wont damage it as much if you had light hair. Try doing highlights and go lighter from there. If you cant get to do it yourself, go see a hairdresser.

my hair is/was naturally jet black,(is now a medium brown colour with copper tones/highlights) try using a dye such as loreal expertise in a medium brown colour, but leave on your hair for about 20 mins longer than stated on the pack, you then get a highlighting kit included to use on your just dyed hair, works a treat, also very easy to use

you have no choice but to use bleach. color can not lighten color and that's a fact. If you want to lighten virgin hair then you can lighten your hair with permanent color but do not do it at home go to a hairdresser. If you do lighten it with bleach you do not have to use a high perioxide at first just tell your hairdresser of your concerns about the bleach.

the bleaches you can get now are much better than even 5 years ago .. i recently had my hair highlighted with blond streaks using a store bought product ... was fine !!! ( my hair is naturally dark brown ).

i would always say TREAT yourself and go and have it done professionally at the salon .. !

you need to strip all colour using a bleach then put in the colour you want to avoid damage use the same brands.
A good colour strip is loreal super blonde which says on the box its for this purpose and then pick another loreal range to get the colour you want.

if ur still under twenty anything u do will probably ruin ur hair. u should be happy with what u have though. some people would love to have ur hair color. my own hair is brown but it's gotten a lot lighter during this summer from the chlorine in pools and sunlight

Go to the hairdressers - they will prelighten it and then dye it and if it goes wrong you can sue them! Just kidding - they are the experts on hair and a drastic treatment such as this requires their expertise.

Try bleaching it, but please whatever you do, DON'T start from the roots. Start the bleach about 1 inch and a half from your scalp. Try it, or go to a professional stylist. Otherwise, just accept your hair the way it is!
