A couple of very simple but effective exercises are doing:

1. leg curls (for back of thighs and butt). Lie on your stomach and with your feet together, slowly raise and lower your legs without touching the floor. Do as many repitions as you can every other day.

2. Wall squat with static hold: Stand erect and lean back against a smooth sturdy wall. Position your heels shoulder width apart and approx. 12 inches away from the base of the wall. Place your hands on top of your head and slide your back down the wall until the tops of your thighs are parallel to the floor.

Now is when the excerise begins: Hold this 90-degree bent-kneed position with almost no movement for at least 30 seconds, until you finally have to slide down and sit on the floor. That's it, just one . Each subsequent workout you must add 5 seconds to your hold time until your hold time will be 90 seconds or very near it.

Just every other day. You will love how this firms your thighs.

Unfortunately I do not know of any exercises that target specific areas of the body to "spot" reduce. So concentrate on overall increases of your metabolism to lose weight. This will shrink your thighs and butt. I suggest starting out by drinking plenty of iced water. Make sure it is ice water. Watch what you eat. Then exercise. Always get a Doctors approval before beginning any diet or exercise program. Also get plenty of sleep. You should see results in less than 2 to 3 weeks. Keep it up and set goals.

Good question.

This problem pertains to many folks -- you just have the courage to ask the question that so many folks have on their mind. This is a problem area for many people. It seems like this is the area where pounds just pile on.

I would start with walking -- everyday -- for about 30 minutes. You will see and feel a difference in less than two weeks.

The next thing you can do to make inroads quickly is to go to the guym. But rather than just say "work out" -- I will direct you to the Precor machine. It simulates running but does less damage to your joints so you can go longer and increase the resistance.

You can set this machine to direct its tension to the exact area of your body that you want to concentrate on. I've done this machine for years and believe me -- it works wonders.

Depending on your exact weight, you might try diet by increasing the protein and fruits and lower your carb intake.

I think you will be down to that 36 by the end of September.

Depends on your body type. If you are prone to having big muscles when you're in great shape, then there might be nothing you can do. Squats help a lot though, as does holding one leg out to the side and holding it for as long as possible, multiple times, alternating from one leg the other. This makes all the weight there be muscle if you do it long enough and are fit.

you don't want to tighten the muscles, so i assume you want to spot reduce the fat. it can't be done. you will need to lower your overall body fat in order to see a difference in one area. because you are female and concerned only with this area, i assume you are pear shaped? with that body type, typically women find that they lose weight from the top down and gain from the bottom up. this means you will notice a difference in your arms, breast, and stomach before your butt and thighs. i think going to the gym and doing cardio mixed with weights would give you results, but no one can tell you what kind and how quickly.

the best thing to do is to lose weight: aerobics, walking, running, diet etc. the pattern of body fat you have is due to excess estrogen released from the adipose tissue(fat).
