It means that in the beginning God created one heaven and one earth. Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. How old is the earth? It has been here since the beginning and It will be here until God creates a new heaven and a new earth. Revelation 21: 1 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. It also means you need a better Bible. The KJV says He only created one heaven and was not until the waters were separated was there more than one heaven. Genesis 1: 7 And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so.

Addressing Quinn's answer
Bible KJV

Genesis 1:1-8
1In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
2And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness [was] upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
3And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.
4And God saw the light, that [it was] good: and God divided the light from the darkness.
5And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.
6And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.
7And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which [were] under the firmament from the waters which [were] above the firmament: and it was so.
8And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day.

Verse 8 tells you that God didn't make Heaven until second day.

Verse 2 tells you that the Earth was already there. It just says it had no form, and void because it was encompassed by water.

So, it basically says what it says.Yep. There was something. And you Christians call us closed minded. Only believing in magic....that is also arrogant. I am not name calling or just throwing those words around. I am simply stating that only believing in what one can understand, faith sounds like the definition of closed minded and arrogant. Again, I am not speaking of an individual just the train of thought, as I am not seeking to fling mud or insult.

First of all, let's quote the proper verse: In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. Genesis 1:1 KJV.

Heaven----singular.

"In the beginning" Creation marks the absolute beginning of the temporal and material world. This verse declares that God created the heaven and earth from nothing. Gen. 1:2 clarifies without life also.

And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. Gen. 1:2

"Created" This verb is used exclusively with God as its subject. It refers to the instant miracle of the creation of the earth and heaven. God brought the world into existence therefore refuting atheisem, pantheism, polytheism, and evolution.

So, it basically says what it says. God made heaven and earth. Yep. All of it. There was nothing and then there was something. And you atheists call us closed minded. Atheism is the ultimate in being closed minded. Only believing in what you can see and prove.....that is also arrogant. I am not name calling or just throwing those words around. I am simply stating that only believing in what one can understand, prove and see sounds like the definition of closed minded and arrogant. Again, I am not speaking of an individual just the train of thought, as I am not seeking to fling mud or insult.

the beginning means when God first created the heavens and the earth, creation. That was the beginning of time and space. Before that there was no beginning because eternity has no beginning or end.

Apparently the Earth is as old as the rest of the universe... This text gives the feeling of importance to it's readers, that the Earth is so important the God had to create it right away!

(I thought in the begining there was logos, and logos was God... Ha, ha!)

Anyway, in other religions, the world is thought to be the body of a god, or the cosmos was created at the same time the God was born.

It means that God created time and space.

In the beginning of time, that is, God created.

Since God exists outside of time, he already was, is, and will be. But his acts of creation set into motion the confines of space and time.
