i am looking for an intelligent vocal type of dog,not one that constantly barks, but one that will "talk" to me when i come home,or when it is hungry or needs something,i have an older dog now who "sings" to me when he misses me,or wants to go outside,or when he wants to go to bed and i have stayed up too late for him,can anyone suggest a breed like this, mine is a rare Cacaisian Ovcharka he was given to me and i don't know if this is a common trait of this breed or not but i do know i will probably never be able to afford another one so can anyone suggest another vocal type of breed

Every Malamute that I ever met has been a talker! Awesome dogs too! You have a Caucasian? I tried to ask a question about what they're like on here and someone called me racist! LOL

Well, any "wolf-like" dogs howl which sounds like singing. So Husky, Alaskan Malamute etc...

There is also this 'yoddling' dog. They do not bark.. they don't know how to- they just yoddle. It's called a basenji, they are small but very cute dogs with a curly 'pig-like' tail.

Well I have a boxer and they are very vocal. He makes all kinds of funny sounds and I swear sometimes it sounds like he's talking. He's a very smart dog and very protective.

umm . . I'm not certain either if that is just a trait of that breed of dog . . but if I am not mistaken, you can train any dog to do the things that you want it to do . . go to the book store and buy a book on training dogs . . .

Bear is a 4-year-old black lab/german shepard mix. She 'talks' to us too. She has her own little way of saying 'please'. When we were teaching that to her, we barked softly, so she picked up on that.

She also barks when she thinks someone forgot to tell her goodbye. We adopted her when she was 8 weeks old, and kissed her goodbye right as we left for work, so she expects everyone to tell her goodbye now.

She barks to our company when she wants to be petted.

We tried to teach her to 'sing', but failed.

get a toy poodle. my toy poodle loved to sing when we would sing, and he would bark to let us know he wanted to come inside. we also taught him how to sneeze on command, so he would sneeze when he wanted food. he was very vocal and we loved him for it!
