Not only is it tradition for a business to hang up the 1st dollar made but for luck, sometimes customers will sign the dollar bills during the first few weeks of business and then place them on a wall or ceiling and then through the years of business, the customers point out that they gave that dollar years ago. Just something for the regulars in a place to have some sort of status.

The first dollar is usually saved to signify that money has been made and if your efforts aren't paying off and if the wallet is empty, you can always look at that first dollar bill and know that you are not completely broke. And too, it's a reminder that where that dollar bill came from, there's more to follow. "It's a good luck thing".

I have the first dollar bill up on the wall from my business venture. I also have the first dollar that was given to me for one of my early birthdays. That one is silver.

As long as I keep the 2 bucks, I will never be broke.

It's the symbolic first dollar, usually given by friends. It's never the first, and there's always more than one.

I just gave one last night to a friend, he just opened a bar, and he's got a bar mirror that he's covering with them.

It's the 1st dollar they made when they opened up shop. It's significant to them, and there's also superstition behind it. If you keep your first dollar you make, your business will prosper. Or something to that effect.
