Being a martyr doesn't necessarily involve God or death. Consider the life of Galileo. He could be considered a martyr because he would not recant his belief in his scientific discoveries, and for that he suffered greatly at the hands of the church. Great personal sacrifice for a cause greater his own...that is being a martyr.
A prophet does not need to have suffered to be a prophet. A prophet is merely a messenger... someone with the alleged capability to communicate with spirits or beings or Gods that are not of this earth or time.

All prophets are martyrs, but not all martyrs are prophets.Nor are all martyrs righteous or even religous. To be a martyr, all you have to do is live and die for your belief.Even if it is wrong. You were still a martyr to your belief.George Bush will even die as a martyr to his belief.Even though it is terribly incorrect.Nor noble.Any man can be a martyr for his or her own belief. But does not at all mean they are martyred for a correct cause nor belief. For example, a person can believe his true purpose of thier existance is to fule the planet. And if he succeeds in the proccess or fails and dies along the way.He is still a martyr. And on the other hand, a man can live his or her life believing thier purpose is to spread peace and help those in need and dies while performing good deeds..Both will die as martyrs, but only one of them are correct.Well at least to my opinion. That is the one spreading peace. But another person can praise the next man and call him a true martyr for trying to conquer the globe.

A Martyr is one who is willing to give his life for a cause. And, I do want to add here that we hear so much about suicide bombers. These are NOT Martyrs. Mohammad said if a person commits suicide he will spend all eternity in Hell reliving the deed. How would you like to blow yourself up over and over, forever. A Martyr is killed by those who are against him-not made by killing himself.
Ludie--you do not know what you are talking about.
A Prophet is one who teaches the word of G-d, and tells of what will come if the people resist the Will of G-d. He intones the people to live better lives. A real Prophet seems to have a special connection with G-d.

A martyr is someone who dies for their beliefs, or even better in the eyes of God, who dies in a fight with the enemies of their faith. There have been martyrs all throughout history, who've sacrificed their lives for believing in their religion. In a general sense, there have been martyrs since the beginning of mankind. In my opinion, Abel was a martyr, because his brother Cane killed him for God loving him more, as a result of him being more righteous in the eyes of God.
Everyone's definition of martyrdom is different. Muslims believe that if you die fighting for your faith, then you're a martyr. A martyr in Islam could become one in many different ways. Even a person who dies while making their prayers, while having led a life of service to God is a martyr in our religion.
Now, a prophet is a messenger of God, who recieves divine guidance, and who is a man specially chosen by God to carry His message to the people. Prophets have a much greater responsibility than ordinary men, because God has placed His message directly in their hands to share with the world, and perhaps even be greatly persecuted as a result.

A martyr is someone who dies because of the religion, such as being killed by a different religious group. A prophet necessarily doesn’t have to die a horrible death. A prophet can be a religious leader who has some special bond with their god, but a martyr can be any poor schmuck who happens to be murdered because of religious conflict.

Two extremely different people.
martyr is a crazy person who thinks that killing people is ok to get to heaven and that there are like slaves in heaven waiting to kiss their butts. even though killing is a sin these martyr people are warped. I think they are satan's army, quite honestly. They believe that their mahdi will rule the earth for the last seven years when he returns. hmmm Satan is supposed to have reign over the earth for seven years according to the book of Daniel in the Bible. I think their mahdi is Satan.
A prophet has God's blessing and promise. Prophets actually had contact with God. Moses on the mountain with the ten commandments and Abraham, was promised the holy land in the book of Genesis. In the Bible.

They're two completely different things. A martyr dies/sacrifices for a cause, a prophet claims to see the future.

A martyr is someone who dies for their faith, but that doesn't necessarily mean they have received a revelation from God other than what is already written in His Word, the Bible.
