A baby should be ina rear facing car seat until they are around 9 months old. Then they should go into a forward facing seat properly fitted.

Technically, as long as you don't have an air bag, they can both go in the front BUT new research has shown that it isn't the safest place for them so I'd stick to the back.

Once they have outgrown the 2nd stage car seat they will need a booster and under new laws this will be until they are about 11 (4ft 6 or something like that)

No baby should ever go in the front car seat. And no responsible parent would put them there.

The front passenger seat is the most dangerous seat in any car because we drive on the left side of the road in the UK, if we pull out too soon, that is the very seat that takes the impact first in crashes and suffers most fatalities.

Babies and children belong securely strapped into the rear seats!

It depends on your vehicle, if the car has air bags and they cant be turned off then the child needs to sit in the back, in a appropiate seat for there weight. You can go to a local Highway Patrol station and they can show you how it should be installed or go to there website. Good luck.

No babies should ride on the front seat. No kid should ride on the front seat unless he/she is 10 or older and also more than 4 feet tall. Read the guidelines for safety on your driver's manual and car seat instructions.

It is wrong to ever have a child in the front seats!! In many states it is illegal for a child to be in the front seat in a child seat at all! ALWAYS in the back.

Never put a child in the front seat, if there is a crash the child is at greater risk and if there are airbags in the car the child could be killed.

Once it can sit. Then it can go in a front facing car seat.

ps: rrrevils is correct - you should never carry your baby in the front seat of a car - percentage of death in an accident is far increased.

Babies must NEVER be carried in the front seat of any vehicle, car seat or not; it is against the law. (and against any common sense)

you have a very valid point ,if the child is in the back seat where he or she should be, in my opinion ,for extra safety, should you have a head on, there is the possibilty your child might be choking and you find there is no where you can pull in. then panic stations are in action to the point of despair. its a problem you have to break through to do what you yourself will be able to handle should it arise. as regards your question, call in to the local police station for the correct advice, maybe a pamphlet.
