I did do this. I feel bad, but I also feel like I need to protect her. She is 13 and I have already caught her talking intimately with a 17 year old boy.

Lady u r doing the right thing!! Shes way to young 2 be talkin 2 someone 17 because a 17 year old can take advantage of your little girl. Dont be too mean about it though, let her know why she cant and give important examples

Don't feel guilty you are only doing what you are supposed to as a mom and that is protect your child. If she is talking to older boys then for sure you did the right thing. There are a lot of parents who don't know what their kids are doing and that's how kids get into trouble. The internet is not a safe place for kids. News programs are always running stories on sexual predators trying to lure young girls through the internet. So don't feel guilty for looking out for your daughter and wanting to keep her safe.

I think it is normal to feel some kind of guilt, I did when I did the same thing to my kids, we tell them to trust us and all of that and then we do something like this but I look at it this way. My daughter turned 14 today and although she knows a lot of things she is also very dumb and naive about others and as her mother it is up to me to protect her from everything that I can just the same as when I make her wear a seat belt, follow a curfew or anything else. I do trust my daughter and I told her as much but I don't trust the crackpots out there that prey on innocent kids.

Teens have their own responsibilities and spying is unfair because there should be some privacy(something is better untold). 2 better ways.....
1) Parents must talk openly bout anything, instead of spying
2)We mustn't do such things which will encourage our parents to suspect us

Should you feel guilty for making her wear her seat belt, or for making her eat nutritious foods instead of cookies all day, or for making her get booster shots, even if she didn't want to go?

You're doing the right thing. Parental protection outranks a child's privacy any day of the week.

Not if they are suspicious of what their teen may be viewing. It's called parental responsibility. Until they move out from under your roof they are your responsibility. Don't feel guilty, feel safe.
