I have read a lot of the questions and answers on this site. I have come to the conclusion that the school system no longer teaches grammar. Is it just me, or have other people found out the same thing?

I don't think teenagers should have the market on not being able to spell. A lot of people have just gotten lazy. The net seems to have given chatspeak the status of a respected language that people of all ages are fluent in. Now, my spelling, occasionally, sucks, as does my use of punctuation and sentence structure, but at least I try.

I am under age 17 and if you look at all my responses they are spelled correctly. Also, I've been using proper grammar. In fact, chances are that my grammar is probably better than that of some people a lot older than 17.

I do not know that I agee that it's a particular age group . Society as a whole has become pretty lazy about spelling and grammar. I see so many mistakes in advertising and public signs! I even notice mistakes in notes that get sent home with my kids from school, (I am a teacher myself so I am not teacher-bashing) it's plain old laziness. My personal peeve is the non-word word "alot". I see it so often and it drives me MENTAL!!! I think I will start a question asking about people's personal grammar peeves; it should be interesting.

I think the bad spelling is partly a "fad", short-cut typing. Part of it is also that the kids don't seem to want to take the time to edit what they type here. They don't seem to care, but its hard to answer a question when its impossible to understand the question because its worded or spelled so badly.

This would probably be just you.
I'm under the age of seventeen, and I find that my spelling and grammar is fairly decent. I'm positive there are people on this site over the age of seventeen, who are chatspeaking in the titles as well.

Pinning it on the younger users, isn't really accurate.

It wasn't like that when I was younger let me tell you...lol. It's because of a lot of younger kids are using Ebonics now. Ebonics by the way is laziness and not a language.
