about 2 months ago my now ex-girlfriend took our 2 children to see her family for a week, we where living in new hampshire and her parents where in vt. she called the day she was supposed to be home and said she wasn't coming back. i had to move out that day because my name wasn't on the lease so i had to move to maine. we had joint custody of our son who is 2, our duaghter is 6 and not bio mine, so i know there is nothing i can do about her ( and i hate it) she has never known her dad, she is the product of a rape. i haven't been allowed to see them and their mother is allready having them call the guy she ran off to "daddy", and she has let him sleep in the same bed as them. i have a lawyer in vt and he told me i have no leagel right to my son in vt, even thow i am his dad and had 50/50 custody. what do i need to do to get my son back, what does a father have to do, i know go to court but how do i have to look in court what do i need to do out side of there to get him back help me.

thank you to every one that anwsered me, and there are a lot of guys out there that want there kids, we just dont know all the little things we can do, so most of us just give in to status-quo. i am not a quiter, i am willing to fight for my son, i have the money to do so, i was left a large amount of money from my fathers death, i will spend every dime of it to get my son back. a boy should be with his father.

If a father really wants custody of his son, he can get it, unless he has committed a crime, has something wrong with him or has done something else wrong. If these are not barriers, then I don't see why your lawyer would tell you it's not possible?

It is really expensive, and it seems to take forever. You might even have to relocate to be closer to them.there are lots of laws that people don't know about. For example... here in Texas it is illigal to livewith someone you are not married to if you don't have full custody of the kids. The state won't do any thing unless an attorney complains.You have to truely want your kids to live with you to go through all you'll need to.My husband fought for 3 years but he finally got his 3 kids. I think your lawyer is wrong...how can he say you have no legal right? He is your son. I would check into it. I know in Massachusetts if you pay child support you have the right to get some type of custody. I would go to court and see what they tell you. Make sure you have a stable home and job.
