I have lots of friends who choose favorite characters from movies or books.... for example:
pip, jabba, mowgli, draco, darth, bilbo, et.
I have friends who watch the pet for a few days and pick up a particular trait of that pet
for example, I had a cat named Bear because he walked around on his back paws and batted at things the way bears do, and I have Friends who named their dog spazz, because he would be lying calmly on the floor then get up and go tearing around the house just to plop down back in the same spot two minutes later.

Best advice, choose a simple name, try for something unique that fits your personality and your pets personality, and be sure it is something you are happy with.

The name should be something YOU find appropriate for the dog. Patches, Pal, Buddy, Tiger, Furrby, Judge, Vicki, Toria, Spike, Dakota, Smokey, all good ones. Try a name for a day or two, but within two weeks settle on one name.

I think every pet owner gives their animal a name but later gives it a nickname! We sure did.

I usually name my dogs from what they look like when I get them. My current dog is a Tea Cup Poodle. She was very fury and fluffy when we got her so I named her Fluffy. Years ago I had a tough time though. I bought a Chinese Shar Pei. With him having so many wrinkles I really didn't want to name him that. Looking at his face made me decide instantly to name him Smiley. Everyone laughed about it but it fit right in.

Bailey is a good one for a boy or a girl. We have a yellow lab and her name is Millie. We also have a pomeranian and her name is Sweetpea. Squeeb is a cute name for a small dog, too.

Try basing the name of the dog on the dog's personality (or the OPPOSITE of it's personality for a humorous name). If you really can't think of anything, try this website: www.petrix.com/dognames/
