When I was a child we used to pick blackberries, elder berries, hazlenuts, mushrooms and even picked up a few eggs! My Dad used to take all us kids out for a walk on a sunday morning while Mum cooked the lunch. One of our walks took us along a road near a farm and there were often eggs from the free range chickens that roamed about. One of the big houses at the end of our road would give us the windfall apples, pears and plums from their orchard. Mum would make apple and blackberry pies. The woods near our house furnished us with hazlenuts which we would keep for christmas. I remember my Gran making Sloe Gin from sloes we collected along the roadside. Also elderberry and dandelion wine. Anyway, enough reminiscing, the answer to your question is yes, but wash everything really well!

If the bushes/trees don't belong to anyone then yes, it's legal.
I used to pick blackberries when i was out walking in the country side and no one complained or noticed, as long as it's not on a regular basis no one would even notice your picking fruit.

Depends whether or not the bushes/trees are on private property or not. Be sure to wash fruit very well as deposits of carbon monoxide from the passing traffic will be present in higher than normal concentrations.

If the land is common land then yes. If the bushes overhang common land then yes. If it is on private land then no. Also, if you endanger yourself and other road users by parking inappropriately or standing in the road while picking then you could find yourself in trouble although you are more than likely just going to be told to move along...

Yes,
But is it wise? Think of the polution from traffic (and passing dogs). If you do wash them.
It's better to take a walk along paths that do not follow roads. Footpaths along field edges are good.
Blackberries are superb at present. Great for making pies (mix with apples and rhubarb) and jam or have a go at icecream.
I have picked several carrier bags over the last week. My freezer is packed.
It's a nice way to spend an hour.

Good question. If its obviously in someone's garden then you would be stealing their fruit but what about blackberries in a hedgerow? Presumably the hedgerow belongs to a farmer so technically it is his fruit. In practise I don't think anyone would be prosecuted for taking wild berries from a hedgerow.

If you mean if the fruit over hangs a fence off the property it's growing from then yes it is legal.
It's illegal for you to lean over the fence though to pick it up.
Fancy making me bramble crumble?
