A lot of the questions and answers seem to be very aggressive and of no use what so ever, and when someone answers a perfectly innocuous question that has nothing to do with religion with something along the lines of "Jesus will save you" and then quote some Bible chapter numbers, I just get bored and wish they'd keep their religion to themselves, reading the Bible won't help someone sort out legalities of a messy divorce or offer sensible advice on how to fix your car.
Maybe there should be a separate Answers site for religious debate, I'm not interested in such questions and I'm sure the religious people don't appreciate all the moronic answers they get to their questions about their religion either.
Not to mention all the Muslim-bashing that goes on here, that really isn't of any help to anyone.
Officially I'm Free Church of Scotland, but I don't believe in any of it.

I should clear up a few things - I read questions mainly from the main page, computing, and consumer electronics; I never cruise the religious sections looking for questions to answer, I have only posted this question here because it seemed an appropriate place, on reflection it could also have gone in the Yahoo! Answers section but I'm not going to post it twice.
Yahoo! Answers is also not a debate site, it's an answer site, so religious debate really should not carry on here.
I think really I just wish people with religious views would keep their religious answers contained within the religious section, answering questions in other sections by quoting the Bible is just unhelpful and annoying.
Maybe what I should have asked is 'Should religion be kept to the religion section and not be allowed in other sections?'. People who are not religious usually don't appreciate
being lectured to about God and the Bible.

I agree with you totally, I tire of all the bible quoting, Muslim and atheist bashing. I do think that sometimes it does help to have a place where everyone can ***** and complain and every once in a great while we learn something from each other. You're always going to have the hard core fundy's who want to save everybody's souls but I have seen a little bit of open mindedness come through. You just have to really look hard to find it!

I'm inclined to agree. Pretty much every time you go to the home page, you'll see at least one question to do with Christianity or Muslims. It's getting tiring. I don't mind a good debate, but the thing is, most of these questions are not MEANT for debate. They're meant to instigate immature conversation and bashing from all sides. They're meant to piss others off.
I understand this is a huge issue on peoples' minds what with the recent world developments, but this site isn't for this kind of talk. Telling people that your religion will solve all their problem has almost ZERO effect on here. I don't understand why people try. Take the super religious Christians, for example. (And nothing against them since I was raised in the Catholic Church.) But they're on here every two seconds quoting verses and proselytizing. People who aren't ready for that just laugh in their face or get annoyed and place all Christians in the same bunch. Figures like Jesus become a meaningless joke to people who don't care at all. It's an awkward situation. Same goes with the Muslim-bashing. It speaks ill of Americans and makes others think they ARE what the world currently sees them as - Arrogant, misunderstanding , etc. It does very little good, mostly harm. And right now, the world needs more peace.
Actually, I would say the same for political "questions" and "questions" about racial issues. There are too many people who go on here to spread their bigoted views and piss off or hurt others.
I have no suggestions as to how Yahoo could control this, if it decided it was getting out of hand...
Anyway, you're not alone.

You ask a question on the Religion and Spirituality site that you know will be answered with a religious answer. I wonder if anyone else sees the conflict of interest here. You can always go to current events, government, health or one of the other sites. No you choose to come to a religious site with condemnation of those who are loving their Savior and living their life in peace for Him. I am a Christian but I also know that there are some that would rather believe in a rock. You may just be one of them. So enjoy, your faith in your rock and I will enjoy my in Jesus Christ. As far as a messy divorce so sorry. Hope it all comes out well for you and your spouse. As for repairing a vehicle, take it to a garage. There are many trained professionals that do this.

Good thinking, but this answers site was built for free use, and when people said free use, they took advantage of their ability to speak without becoming injured by the aggressive public. Today, religion is a huge topic, because many people are ready to make their own paths in life. Unfortunately, a majority of the public do have biased thoughts against one another (e.g. Muslims vs. Christians). It is also of the Christian will to try and convert others by taking advantage of such sites. It is a terrible shame, don't you think? Some believe they can resolve life through religion, and that choice is theirs to make. You can make a different choice and choose to ignore these people, but really one should not ignore one's enemies.

Why do you bother reading the questions then? If you're looking for a specific answer then look in the specific category. People should be able to express their views on religion without being told that they are some kind of extremist. Not everyone acts on what they think you know. Most ordinary, decent, sensible people just want to express an opinion and not be bawled out about it.

There is the separate section for religion, which you posted in. However, I do agree that people should learn to be respectful and less hateful. You can always report abusive language though, especially anything that's horribly prejudice.
Furthermore, religion is a very important aspect in many people’s lives, and we should retain an environment that is welcoming to the discussion. I do agree that “Jesus will save you” statements aren’t very helpful in any case though.

now u can see more stupid questions on meditation, tattoos, adult content and space here at religion and spirituality section. and as for the cultural bashing, yes i agree that there is some degree of hostility here.
but people will not get to know each other until they argue. but they shouldask questions with respect and dignity with an intention of widening the horizons. people should not post stuff just to insult other participants.
they should stop hate speech and violent, posting disturbing rascist questions for sure, those that drive people so mad up the wall.

No, I don't think free expression should be stymied. But this is a private program owned by Yahoo and they did post there terms of use; which of course is easily worked around and fooled.
Yahoo just need better overseer to keep tabs of those stupid and inane postings which should be immediately deleted when they come across them.
More then twice from the same poster and the account is banished into eterniuum (made up that word).

Religion - maybe - politics - definitely - people should not be allowed to write about either or talk about either when they are ignorant and uneducated about it.
All these liberals -now we can't even say God in the pledge of allegiance and people fight nativity scenes at Christmas - it is absurd how these people abuse our rights - that we as Americans have. It is sickening - it is part of all of us and these people have nothhing better to do - believe in fiction - it is so sad. My only wish is that these people who talk so much and act so little - leave the USA - if they despise it so much and solely live to try to protest why do they stay here?? Why??

No. religion is far more important than any of the other topics here. Why would we keep religion to ourselves when an important part of religion is to share it?
The bible is very relevant to everyday life and teaches how to prevent divorce. Sadly cars had not been invented so it can not help you there. Perhaps the bible thought you'd prefer to hear about life rather than a car.
