So you want to not buy Chinese products which keep both the Chinese and US economies going because they cant watch The Simpsons from 5pm to 8pm when they're trying to develop their own cartoon and animation studios? Thats a little harsh isnt it? Arent some of us here the ones who accuse the US of global domination anyway?

Besides, there is a large underground network in China supplying DVDs that have been banned by the state - i'm sure if they tried hard enough they'd be able to get a copy of them.

This is more of a protection issue than anything, although I wouldn't be surprised if they hid behind the protect cultural values excuse.

The Simpsons is not exactly what I call wholesome TV. It's funny, but I don't think that the values portrayed in the show is what I'd love my children to have.

As for wholesome children's TV like Sesame St or the Wiggles, it would be a shame to ban this sort of programming.

Believe me, they won't have to 'try hard' to find pirated stuff. However they'd have to try very hard to get the genuine stuff because you can't really find it anywhere in China.

China is a communist country. There are more reasons to quit buying Chinese made goods that just that fact that they are not allowing Bart Simpson in their living rooms. And the liberals think we have no rights here. They need to live in places such as china for awhile.

An interesting article; thanks for the link!

I had a good laugh at the Chinese government, though; it's nearly impossible to legislate taste, and that's exactly what they are trying to do.

Either they're going to have to improve the quality of their homemade cartoons (and, the Chinese are not known for encouraging free expression in anything, much less a print medium), or they are going to see a lot of foreign cartoons being quietly circulated behind Beijing's back.

china likes to restrict each thing. they banned coldplay because of their song, "spies." per chance they theory that the simpson had at one time alluded to spying, loose wondering, or recommendations of china having recommendations administration over their human beings.

censorship is wrong.......... yes we should stop supporting countries that censor , but the prices of the goods and services are hard to beat . the blame rests partially on our country for not putting pressure on them to change .

cheers !
