The first thing you need to do is take it to the vet to be sure it doesn't have a urinary tract infection. Cats will void outside the box when they have a problem to tell you they need help. If there is no infection then you need to stop and think if you have changed anything. like your litter, or the position of the litter box. Has anything new been added to the home like a roomate, a baby, etc.. If none of this applies then will have to restrict the cat to one room with no rugs. Sorry this is an ongoing problem for a lot of cat owners. Aside from hiring a behaviorist there is no miracle cure.

My cat used to do that too! She stopped when I made sure that her box was cleaned more regularly. I think given the choice, the throw rugs looked much more appealing as a place to pee rather than her dirty box. I also noticed that my cat was having a difficult time with her new litter box. I tried one of those big, covered boxes, but I don't think it worked very well for her. It was difficult for her to get in and out of, not to mention cover up her poop, so I went back to using the lower, smaller open box, and I haven't had any problems since.

Well you first should make sure that her litter box is changed more frequently..if you dont already do that, and also make sure she does know where it is at, may sound stupid but my cat used to do that. Also keep washing these rugs, like inthe washer with a strong smelling scented detergent or fabric softeneer. if she can smell cat pee on any of them at all she will contiue to pee in those spots

Cats KNOW that this gets your attention, right? He is trying to tell you something is wrong.
You must have him checked for urinary crystals or an infection in his bladder. This is the first thing to do ASAP especially with a male as they are more prone to problems in their urinary tracts than females.
If you rule out the medical issue, then it is a behavior problem and you need to work on that. DO NOT let him continue in this behavior as it can be very hard to change it. Get him to the vet ASAP.

My cat started peeing everywhere so we brought him to the vet. Turns out that he had Kidney Stones and he almost died.

It might be a medical issue. Get in touch with your vet to rule out a urinary infection.

Is it a male cat? He may be marking his territory. Getting him fixed may help.
