I would definitely keep the photo collection until your nieces are old enough to have it and take care of it. It sounds like to me, if you give it to their Mother that something might happen to it since she doesn't take care of her own pictures. This is something you have done that is VERY SPECIAL. Don't let someone else destroy it or take the credit for doing it. The world would be a better place if it had special people like you in it that shows they care about their family. I would give anything to have family that would even show they care at all. Keep up the good work.

I know this is a difficult decision and depending on the age of the children and the responsibility that the children have, you may need to wait. If you feel it would be safer at your house, try tell their mom that you would like to personally give it to them as a gift when they are a bit older and actually understand what it is.
If their mom seems upset by this you may want to consider telling her you have thought of some other things you'd like to add or you have some final touches you need to make before its complete. Even if the only thing you do is add an embellishment or sticker here or there or maybe even dates, depending on what type of pages you've done!
I have been in this position before with my best friend and her kids. It's so hard to put that much time and money in something when it doesn't get taken care of! Tough Decision, but maybe this will give you a little bit of help!

how old are the kids, if 4 or 5 or even under that i would leave till they are older enough to appreciate it but if teenage years then i would give to them now as they can decide
the question is what does teh mother do with everyhting else, does she respect everything given to her or is she always throwing things out and moving them, are these photos of the children and likely to have sentimental value to her - do u still have the negatives as maybe u can give her a copy of teh photos and keep the scrapbook for when they older while just showing them every now and then
u could add to it as they are growing up and then in the future it will become a heirloom piece and valuable record of their childhood ;o)

I would keep it at my house and let the kids look through it when they visited you. When they are old enough (you determine the age) to appreciate the book then give it to them. Make a big deal about it, like we did with our kids. We had a special day just for them that was not a birthday, Christmas or anything like that. We just picked a day, had a special dinner and gave them precious gifts from the heart.
In fact we are having a Ben Day today for my 23 year old son today after he gets off of work. We are taking dinner to him and giving him special gifts. It's not his birthday or anything. We just want to show him that we love him and appreciate him.
Good luck.

Did you make it for their pleasure or yours? If you would enjoy it more than giving it, then hold onto the scrapbook until your ready to part with it. A gift has no strings. I made one with my Granddaughter and we used my pictures and some of hers. I told her it was hers but that I would keep it at my house to work on together. When she got in middle school she stopped coming to work on it and one day she asked for it. I was a bit reluctant but it's hers so I gave her it. What ever happens to it now is out of my hands. I'm glad she wanted it enough to ask for it.

So who did you make it for? Did you make it for yourself? If that was the idea - that you would have a collection of them to enjoy whenever you wanted then tell their Mom you love them too and this was for your enjoyment. Tell her you would be glad to help her make one of her own if she has time. If the idea was that you would eventually give the album to them when they are old enough you keep it until you judge it is the right time.

I would wait until they're 18, they will appreciate it more, seeing themselves when they were younger. Are you putting little sayings about what they were saying or doing at the time of the photo?
You're a great Aunty

you could give it to them now but make sure you tell their mother how much time you took and how careful she should be with it. maybe her photos are all scattered because she doesnt like to take the time to do anything with them, but if they were all neat she would care for them.

Give it to them. Though mom may not care about her own the scrapbook will be special and the girls will look at it on occasion. You can always spend more time and add to it with them.
