In many countries cremation is the norm. It is actually your personal choice. State your preference in your will.

No, There are actually no where as many people as you think there are. First off, drive through the US, or walk through SE Asia, and you will find there is still LOTS of room. 6.5 billion people can fit in the state of California, USA and every SINGLE person will have 26 by 26 square feet.... and California is only 3% of the world's land area, NOT counting Antarctica. And hey, if we really needed to, if we have the capability to dream of colonizing the moon or mars.... Antarctica would be easier than those places. We could do it, humans are ridiculously smart. So... sorry, but banning burials is simply foolish and stupid because we just don't need to. By the way, making land in cemeteries prevents developers from building on them later, which seems to 'save the land' better than leaving them natural and then having housing developments put on them.

Tht's a really good question. I've thought about this myself. Especially in places where the land is at a premium, like in Japan or the UK.
It seems like a sound idea, however be prepared for the religious uproar.

Yes.
You know about dust to dust.
Cremation is a way of accelerating the operation.
You are going to go that way anyway.
It was the Catholic Church that didn't want cremation a long time ago.
They were concerned about the Resurrection of the body.
Didn't consider that God is able to do anything. Still is.

No - there is so much land that is of no use for agriculture right now we should be using that for cemetaries so that in 10,000 years the dead bodies might be the fertilzer the bring life to them. I think we should just turn the Sahara (for example) into a cemetary. Think about that for a moment?

Dear member,
Like I say to everyone else, everyone is entitled to their own beliefs. Maybe in your world that would be great but to majority of this world currently, your question is an option someone chooses at the time of their loved one, friends or family member's death.
Kind Regards,
Ben

Please do not make statements that are incorrect. It is a fact that every person on this Earth can be buried in an area the size of Rhode Island. Do your homework before making false statements.

Why cremate? That's a waste of resources. Recycle.
Sound terrible? No more so than your idea.

NO!
We are short of fuels and cremation causes are pollution.
I did not know you while you were alive, why should I have to breath you when you are dead!
