for .mov files u need QuickTime to play (u can download it from Apple.com) and i think any multimedia program (such as Media player or ...) can play the .avi files (of course it may be a special kind so it needs the propper program)
another way is to get the VLC media player that can pley almost every type of file.

Mov files are quick time (preferably QT7), avi files need a media player like windows media player and the appropriate codec like divx
