More people don't think the sky is made of water because it isn't.
It's made of gasses. Our atmosphere is mainly Nitrogen and Oxygen. Clouds are made of water vapor, and when it rains this vapor condenses and falls to the ground, but the sky itself is not made of water.
Back when the Torah was written, it was probably believed that the sky was made of water because the sky was blue, like water, and because water sometimes fell from the sky. When you think about it in a simple way like that, it makes sense. If you asked little kids, they'd probably agree that it was a good explanation.
I think we get in trouble when we take everything in the bible literally. If you believe that the sky is made of water, then you might believe in Adam and Eve, the fact that the earth was made in seven days, and all that other good stuff. Which is fine, if it suits you. But do you also believe that a person should be stoned to death for being disrespectful to mom and dad? That the earth is only 6,000 years old?
You're talking about where it says something about separating the water of the earth from the water of the sky... or something, right? I think the idea there was that he created the atmosphere that we breathe, not that the atmosphere is made of water. When I read that part of the Torah, I took it as a really beautiful metaphor. It's pretty, poetic. It doesn't need to be literal.

In Genesis, god created the 'firmament' to divide the waters. The firmament is a solid structure... the sky. On one side of the sky lies earth... on the other side of the sky is heaven. The half of the waters that were on the 'heaven' side of the sky were released via heaven's engineering staff opening the 'windows of heaven', and allowing the waters from heaven to pour down upon the earth.
Genesis 7:11 "In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, the same day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened."
7:12 "And the rain was upon the earth forty days and forty nights."
So, basically, the earth is a terrarium, with heaven occupying the outside of the jar, near the top... and, of course, this is all that exists.

First answer. No, your brain is made of water mostly.
Now seriously. In the creation story the Bible makes reference to (waters) plural. I believe that the meaning of the word changes in context throughout the different stages of creation.
For example, in verse 2: And the Earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
To me this means that the Earth was in the planning stages and did not exist yet. The waters in the latter part of the verse are referring to what the Universe must have been at the time. There wasn't even any light at this point in time. But in the next verse God said let there be light and there was light. It almost seems as though it was a point in time where gravity was so strong that light couldn't escape. But God extended the size of the Universe so that gravity would weaken and light could shine as it does now.
In verse 5 it says that God called the light "Day" and the darkness "Night" and the evening and the morning were the first day.
What the Bible is saying concerning the "Day" is that the light was something that was created during a creative period. It's not like a 24hr day that we think of. The word "Day" is referring to a creative period the length of which IS NOT defined.
Now in verse 6,7, and 8 it says that God created a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters. And the firmament divided the waters above from the waters below the firmament. And God called the firmament heaven and the evening and the morning were the second Day.
Remembering that a Day is a creative period without a predefined length let's consider what happened here. On the 1st day there was light. Light and it's properties are definitive of energy itself. So what God created was one of the most basic features of the Universe and is actually what the Universe is made of. But on the second day God created a firmament. Now what the heck is a firmament. I looked it up and it is...
fir·ma·ment (fûrm-mnt) KEY
NOUN:
The vault or expanse of the heavens; the sky.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ETYMOLOGY:
Middle English, from Old French, from Late Latin firmmentum, from Latin, support, from firmre, to strengthen ; see firm 2
Now if you look at the etymology of the word it makes you wonder how they must have determined that the "expanse of the sky" means the same thing as to strengthen or support.
Now to actually try to explain what these verses really mean is a guessing game in my opinion and nobody knows the facts for sure. We are too small to understand it but we can speculate.
So if I were to retranslate using the definition you can come to other conclusions. So God created a support in the midst of the waters and created it to divide the waters from the waters. And it divided the waters from the waters. So now it is just as important to know what the firmament is as it is to know what the waters are. I will just say that the Bible is definitely not talking about water like we shower with or drink. As a matter of fact I don't believe that water even existed at that point in time. I mean the Earth hadn't even been created yet. Like I said earlier I believe water takes on different meanings depending on what point in time your are talking about. There may have actually been a concept that they were trying to explain when they wrote the Creation story but they didn't have the word to explain that concept. So they chose to use a word they were familiar with that would help to explain the concept.
Now when you go reading the various manuscripts you will know that they are not to be taken literally and that you are being very very shallow in your thinking when you attempt to discredit a book that is 6000 years old. How old are you? 27? 22? 18? 65? Oh you are soooooo intelligent! You have disproven a 6000 year old book in such a short time! Why don't you climb down from the high place that you imagine yourself to be in and actually TRY to understand.
Now take what I have explained to you and share it with people. Just like you did your question. It really pisses me off when people like you try to mislead other people who would like to understand. Who gives a **** what you read. You apparantly give no effort in trying to understand it. Your only effort is in your weak attempts at destroying others faith.
So what are you saying? That the firmament is made of water? Or that it divides the waters? From what I read it's not saying that the sky is made of water. Even if I try to read it from your perspective saying that the firmament is the sky it's still not saying that the sky is made of water. But I guess it could be saying that it divides the waters. Maybe you are onto something here. I mean afterall the sky IS where water vapor changes back to water liquid. So the firmament could be the sky. But I wouldn't say that it extends into the far reaches of the universe.

There are stuff interior the sky that's made up of water and considered one of all of them of us know is the clouds. So How are clouds shaped? as quickly as we boil water, water ameliorations into yet another state called gas(air). This gas is warm so it rises into the sky. because it rises the temperature interior the sky drops and this gas, water vapor, looses warmth and condenses back into water. interior the sky water looks a sprint distinctive like steam. Now why is the sky blue? The blue shade of the sky is via Rayleigh scattering. As easy strikes in the process the ambience, lots of the longer wavelengths bypass at as quickly as with the aid of. Little of the crimson, orange and yellow easy is suffering from the air. regardless of if, most of the shorter wavelength easy is absorbed with the aid of the gas molecules. The absorbed blue easy is then radiated in distinctive instructions. It receives scattered everywhere in the sky. Whichever direction you look, a number of this scattered blue easy reaches you. by using fact you spot the blue easy from everywhere overhead, the sky looks blue.

Yes, the sky is partially made of water vapor. The main components are nitrogen and oxygen, but there are also thousands of other types of molecules in the air as well.
Ha Ha, I like Bonzo's answer. We actually learned in Calculus that 2 + 2 actually = 5.9998 for very large values of 2.

Sinyckel,
It has water in it. Does that mean it's made of water? I don't think so. But it is interseting that the top Environmental guru in the United States says that "water vapor is by far the worst" in the Global Warming gases. LOL
I guess we have to get rid of water now, or die!
Here's the quote:
"Of all the greenhouse gases, water vapor is by far the most dominant, but other gases are more effective at trapping heat energy from certain portions of the electromagnetic spectrum where water vapor is semi-transparent to heat escaping from the Earth’s surface."
Water!!!!!!! I guess it sucks to be us!

If the Bible says the sky is made of water, then the sky is made of water. If the Bible says the earth was created 4004 BC, then the Earth was created 4004 BC. If the Bible says 2 + 2 = 4345983159087 then 2+2 = 4345983159087.
It's real simple as long as you avoid rational thinking.

Most realize that if it were made of water humans would not be able to breathe because fish live under water and don't live in air. Yes fish breathe Oxygen but differently than we do. We learn that in school in basic science.
Our atmosphere is made up primarily of nitrogen (78.1%), oxygen (20.9%), argon (0.96%) & trace amounts of various elements including hydrogen, carbon, phosphorus and sulfur.

My Bibles say that the "waters UNDER the sky"... "are gathered together so the dry land will appear". But if you want to call the sky water and the ocean the sky, we don't care.
