When she was younger she never did this before. She has started doing this in the past 3 Months. Can anyone tell me what I can do to prevent this from happening?

Thank You,

-Sheila

Some dogs just pee when they get excited. This is something that is probably out of your dog's control, so whatever you do, don't punish her for it. To save your carpet, make sure that you take her out first thing when you get home, before anyone pets her. My cousins also dealt with this problem with their dog by getting him in the kitchen, and having a handful of paper towels ready before petting him when he was excited and likely to have a full bladder. Since this is a new problem for your dog, I would also take her to the vet for a check-up, just to rule out any medical reasons for her sudden loss of bladder control.

Submissive or excitable peeing is common in lots of dogs, especially young ones. The best way to avoid it is to quasi-ignore the dog when you enter the room.

Let her approach you when she is ready and avoid 'rough' play. Pet her gently, come down to her level (which is low with a Papillion!) and use a soft voice when speaking to her until the behaviour subsides.

There are lots of great books on there on dog behaviour. Look for Barbara Woodhouse's "No Bad Dogs". Also speak to your breeder for more insight on Papillion behaviour.

Dont let her get excited. Dont allow any one to touch her until she is completely calm. If she starts getting all excited again stop petting her. She will see the only petting she gets is when she is calm. My Tzu used to dribble at the front door when someone came over. She was so excited and jumping around. Now when someone is at the door I make her sit calmly. Then I open the door. If she moves I make her sit again. Sometimes I did this several times. Within a week she didnt even run to the door anymore. Give it a try. m

It's very common in puppies. She'll grow out of it between 1.5 and 2 yrs of age. Nothing you can do in the interim. When my little dog was young we just took her outside before greeting her. Maybe you can do that if you don't live on the 5th floor or something like that.

I have a small dog and she did it too. I'm sure it has something to do with the size of the bladder and the excitement. You've heard of people getting so excited they peed their pants, this is the same sort of thing. She'll probably grow out of it mine did.

My mother-n-law has a little dog that does this as well, her name is Lil bit, lol she has done this since she was very little and i have seen it with a few other dogs and funny thing is, that they all were females, my female boxer every now and then does that when she is very excited. It maybe a female thing, we seem to have weak bladders compaired to mean.

There's is absolutely nothing you can do. My dog did it while she was a puppy, she'll have to out grow it.
