"acceb" gave good info.

I can believe her Mapquest.com answer of 4400 miles. I know NYC-Seattle is about 2700 miles and Seattle-Anchorage is 2500, but you would turn NW sooner than Seattle.

Note that while half those miles are in the US where gas will be about $3/gallon, half are in Canada. In big Canadian cities, gas is going for CAN$1.15/liter = US$3.90/gallon. But 2/3 of your Canadian travel will be north woods, so figure about US$5 per gallon. Average for the whole trip = $3.85/gallon

So for 20 mpg, US$850

For 25 mpg,US$680

For 30 mpg, US$560

For 35 mpg (my Corolla), US$480

For 50 mpg (my wife's Prius), US$340

"76 hours of driving time." is reasonable. I could make it (including stops and short naps) in 4 days but I tend to move fast. Figure a week if you stop to sleep every night but otherwise keep moving.

From Anchorage airport to New York City Time Square, Mapquest.com says it's about 4400 miles, and will take you 76 hours of driving time. If your car gets 25 miles a gallon, you need 176 gallons. At $3 a gallon, it will cost you $528 in gas alone.
