I say if you go AWOL nothing will happen to you. Back in the 60s and 70 many thousands went AWOL and the President pardon all of them. ( Carter ) I say "No big deal" if you hit the road and say Good Bye to the military.

Should we forgive the terrible syntax of your question? The military now has men and women. This is not a war. Congress has the power to declare war and they have not done so. This is not a war. This is not illegal. It may be illegal to your own personal code of morals and ethics. But it is not against the laws set up by the American Government, or established international law. AWOL is simple absent with out leave. There is no reason code given for it. There is no way to detect "due" they just are. For any reason. My uncle was AWOL for three days. He was in a bad accident and did not report back. When his commanding officer found out what happened all charges were dropped.
So do you see how you did not really ask a proper question. Try to drop your political hyperbole and ask again and see if we can find something closer to a real answer.
