im not pro or anti illegal but im just wondering if all the illegals are shipped off or killed off what would happen if
if the cost of living skyrockets because the employers need to pay higher salaries ..then will services like manicures and doctors fees or going out in restaurants be high?
the employers would then need to ask for higher rates if they need to pay higher salaries, is that right?
would prospective entrepreneurs and businessmen rather not put up businesses within the country?(you cant tell them what to do, btw)
will food be expensive, and how about clothes or luxury items like make up jump higher than they already are?

Will the GREAT DEPRESSION happen again?

some believe the Wall Street Crash of 1929 was the immediate cause triggering the Great Depression, there are other, deeper causes that explain the crisis. The vast economic cost of World War I weakened the ability of the world to respond to a major crisis. In Europe, the question of the war reparations was fundamental to the economic and political history of France, Germany, Britain and the United States, but the greatest effect was on Germany, since that country had to pay the largest portion of reparations

If the cost of living skyrockets and people would start to SPEND LESS and save more, that definitely will murder the economy. Now is would be a nice time to sew your floursack underwear.

"Public behavior

The British economist John Maynard Keynes coined the term "paradox of thrift" to describe the deepening of the Great Depression after 1929. The paradox of thrift indicates that when people decide to save more they spend less. "

It doesn't matter. Wages would go up, so it would all balance out.

You don't understand.. If banana's become 8 bucks, you better believe it's going up because the wages out there in fields are going up.. And it's not going to be at least minimum wage if bananas are 8 bucks..

Use your brains.

The only reason prices will increase, will be from the result of wages increasing... This would also be good quality for the dollar.

The Economy wouldn't suffer. If anything, it'd take highschool kids to compensate for a few weeks, then the economy would level out again right about to where it is, if not, even higher due to increased wages and prices...

Take a class in Micro and Macroeconomics...

first gain a knowledge of the true reason and cause of the great depression ... it was a plan to consolidate wealth by the rich through the federal reserve and to confiscate americas gold... it was planned it didnt just happen. They could actually do it again the same way they did last time by making the money supply scarce since the federal reserve has direct control over the amount of money in circulation ... they raise interest rates and call in loans and wind up owning all the properties. What ur talking about could cause prices to rise somewhat across the board but i doubt it would crash the economy even if it wasnt fictional thinking, no, the next big problem with the economy will most likely come from america getting so far in debt that the banks start refusing to deal with it ... taxes will have to be raised and new taxes added just to keep the economy floating ... probably within the next 5-7 years there will be at least major economic recession that will be painful to the average american and most will have to learn to live with even less than they have now ... and it doesnt have anything to do with immigrants ... people just need to get off the subject and leave those poor people alone ... theyre just looking for a scapegoat ... the economy is pretty much doomed ... blame the govt and blame the federal reserve board ... not the immigrants.

You may not know it but,you are paying in taxes what you think you are saving in services, there have been several hospitals closed because illegals were treated and didn't pay a dime for it,our schools right now have to hire new teachers besides the one already there to teach bilingual classes, and guess who are getting those jobs?that's right, illegal immigrants with false papers with help from the local administrations that want to cater to illegals, there have been by government estimates between 11 to 20 million illegals that entered this country since 1986,now how in the world do you think,we got along without them then.Japan has no illegals the way we do,and they are better financially then we are,why do you think that is?

The WW1 conflict was the first to demand reparations on a scale
impossible to achieve. A case of exploiting the weak nation.

Economies which thrive using underpaid exploitable people is a case of exploiting the weak as well.

Most countries are made up of illegal immigrants but their children usually get over it. Over population and the resultant fears of loss as finite resources are spread and exhausted...

The cowards never tried and the weak died along the way.
Proud American descended from both legal and illegals.

PS If American and not descended strictly from native Americans and/or ex-slaves then your family closet has the same bones rattling around as mine.

On the plus side the influx of cheap labor appears to boost every economy on record. It certainly accounts for major economic boons of individuals/corporations. Allows widespread access to
many resources which would be unfeasible(like your grocers produce aisle).

However it does get you focused on a group(people love to feel better about themselves) you can blame for(fill in blank) AND keeps politicians from discussing things like affordable health care, etc (how do you feel about US companies sending employees to India for cost savings AND better care?- FACT)

I'm just bitter that a good paying job involves going back to Iraq(US NAVY six years) to oversee Turkish nationals rebuild what I bombed...don't worry it's legal... when local teachers make ends meet by waitressing!

God had a message for a better way but those politicians and money changers...

Good luck and I hope you outlive your hatred.

This is a relatively simple thing to fix...regarding illegal immigration. If the gov't would just raise minimum wage to at least 9 dollars and hour, taking the money spent on border forces to enforce that every dollar earned is accounted for and no under the table cash payments for work rendered, there would be a gradual migration of illegal immigrants going the other way across the border. The relief provided to the social programs in the government by the migration of illegal immigrants back to their home countries would help to balance the budget and reduce identity theft crimes. The remaining immigrants, who somebody thinks highly enough to pay a decent wage would be an asset instead of a drain on the economy, since they would be paying taxes and not soaking our welfare system.

Who do you think did these so called jobs that Americans wont take before the influx of illegals .We did them ourselves,When I was in college I worked part time as a waitress,It was a good job it paid for the extras my scholarship didn't,and I never felt degraded to be a waitress,my own daughter worked from the time she was 14 doing different menial jobs, even tho she didn't have to I'm proud of her work ethic, that's the same one she has today in her work..The drain on our welfare system, our health care, the drain on our law enforcement would be less and so the loss of the illegals would be well worth any repercussions ,and frankly I cant think of a one. This country is able to take care of its needs without the help of criminals, and being here without proper documentation is a crime and the thought of giving all theses criminals amnesty is sickening.

1. the rich already send the jobs overseas
2. getting rid of illegal immigrants makes room for legal ones
3. I don't know about the $2/hr tomato picking jobs, but I don't see the $16/hr construction jobs going up in salary just because illegals aren't doing them anymore........ not every illegal is sqeaking by on lower than minimum wage.
4. how does it help the US economy for money from our companies to funnel out of the States to the immigrants prospective home lands?
5. this is Capitalism, we'll either sink or swim.
6. maybe the employers will pay more, but people will also spend more (considering that unemployment will go down with an influx in open jobs). of course, with extra jobs, there may not be enough people to fill those jobs. it will become a 'buyers' market and wages will stay low or go lower. this isn't necessarily bad as long as cost of living follows suit. since they don't have an increasing overhead, most companies wouldn't raise prices. the ones that do will be like the oil companies who use any hiccup in supply to blame demand for an increase in cost.
7. lets just say it gets more expensive all around. are you saying it's better to leave illegals alone? on the fringe of society? with less than I have as a full citizen? don't they have the right to a fair wage? if we did leave illegals just as they are, my next effort would be to lobby for better working conditions and more money (if for no other reason that to take two of the proillegals' arguements away from them)
8. inflation has taken this country to extraordinary heights. we will have another Depression. it's going to happen. why? because we can't seem to get the mix right. we add socialist laws into our capitalist economy and wonder why they are contradictory. we subsidise billionares. we give grants for any little thing people want to do. we are becoming a society of people that whine everytime something isn't just handed to them! (... like a green card, for example)

I say deport them. If I have to work harder, fine. I'm used to it. If people have to come up off of welfare and get a job, fine. They better get used to it! Americans are well-known for their ability to pull up their bootstraps when the going gets rough. And despite what friend and enemy alike say, This Generation Is Strong Enough To Survive!

The cost of living would not skyrocket.

While more expensive labor would tend to increase prices, the cheap labor savings has mostly gone into corporate pockets and has not been passed along. Vegetable pickers made much more in adjusted dollars in 1975 than they do now, and do you ever remember a price drop?

Doctor fees would go down again as the taxpayers and patients with ability to pay no longer have to cary the costs of so many who don't pay.

The quality of education would rise in border states as the disproportionate funding of ESL students at the expense of other programs could be greatly reduced, and the subsidizing of education for illegals and their children would stop, creating a fund to turn around education for those who should be here.

Some will leave the country. However, they are telling us over and over that those are jobs we don't do anyhow, and having some of the strawberry fields go south of the border (where they don't get subsidized, so I kind of don't expect it) would free up land in a California transformed by $10.5 billion less being spent by average taxpayers. The amount of money no longer sent out of the country by those illegally here will easily cover any balance of trade shifts.

The houses have to be built here, etc. The rich may not get to skim quite as much off the top as they do with slave labor, however, the bulk of the county would be much better off. Meanwhile better education will prepare our children to compete in whatever sort of world it turns out to be, be that 'New World Order' or revived nationalism.

Or am I the only one seeing that all over the world productive nations are becoming persuaded that it is perfectly appropriate to run their governments in a way that benefits their own people, first?
---------------
Did I say one thing to make you think I wanted you deported? I don't even know you. I was answering your 'what if' question to the best of my abiilty. I just don't think the cost of living would skyrocket. You gave us no choice in your scenario. You specified that they would be gone, remember?

2006-08-13 06:57:41 · answer #9 · answered by DAR 7 · 3 4

You have never taken any sort of economics class have you? If you had, you would understand why this will never happen. Employers will be forced to pay higher wages(well those that employ illegal aliens), but they cannot raise prices very much higher. They can only raise them to what people are willing to pay, if they try to raise them to high, it does nothing but hurt them, because people will not buy their product. So pretty much, they will be forced to pull in less profit. The illegals, make up roughly 4% of the population, there is no way that 4% is enough to crash our economy.

Alan Greenspan said, "When home prices get too high and are out of balance with the number of people who can afford to buy, an invisible hand comes along and corrects the imbalance". In other words he was saying that either wages would rise to make homes affordable to more people or home prices would fall.
Warren Buffet, second richest man in America, sold all his stocks, went to a cash position and invested his money in foreign currencies. Why did he do that? He said he thinks that the U.S. will use inflation to ease their liabilities. In fact Bernanke has a targeted inflation goal. Inflation helps the econony grow in some twisted way. If the countrys value of goods and services is measured in U.S. dollars, wouldn't inflated prices on everything make the countrys production seem bigger than it really is? If the government has to pay you $1000 a month, if they can pay you in tomorrows money that is not as worth as much as todays money, aren't they saving? Government seems to have the most to gain from inflation and the least to lose.
If you are working in a good job, have a business where you are able to raise prices or have plenty of money already that you can figure out how to protect and grow you may be O.K. If you are living on a fixed income, forget it.
