Okay, this is a multi-part question. Two questions for the price of one, I'm such a cheater!

Anyway, first off--is attempting suicide really illegal? I've never heard of anyone being arrested for attempting suicide, unless it resulted in other people being hurt.

Now, after someone attempts suicide and lives, what happens to them? Let's assume that they're not suffering any brain damage or internal injuries or anything from swallowing poison or pills--so they're basically okay except for whatever terrible thing is going on in their head. What happens? Are they forced into a mental health facility? Forced into therapy? Or are they just allowed to go back into society like nothing ever happened?

I'm not saying they SHOULD be forced into therapy or anything--I don't know what should be done, except that I think it's sad if they're just allowed to go back home without getting any help.

Thats a very good question and while I can't answer it, I can share a story about a friend of mine. Years ago I had a friend who was just stressed out and having a rough time. She went to a local hospital to see if she just talk to a counselor or something. She got in there and in started answering a few questions....
(She was a waitress about 30ish.) She told them she had been stressed out from work and life and boyfriends, etc. They asked her if she knew what day of the week it was, she worked 7 day/wk, she was off by a couple days...LOL The president of the US? Being a waitress working her hours, she didn't stay up on current events or politics...she guessed George Bush, it was Clinton at the time. They asked if she ever thought about suicide? She said "Hell, who hasn't at some point in time or another?"
Well, they locked her in the mental ward against will and had her medicated for like a week. I'm not sure what happened after she got out. I think she just went back to whatever and stayed away from the hospital.

Yes, suicide is illegal, but what's the point if you succeed? If you don't, they usually put you in the Psych Ward of the local hospital, until other arrangements are made. Attempted suicide is a cry for help. If you know someone who's crying, answer them. If it's you, go look for help before you do manage to kill yourself.

It is illegal. Attempted murder. Yeah, believe it or not.

After an attempt they usually get checked into a psyche ward for therapy and counseling for a while, depending on the severity of the mental illness.

I hear that they go to the mental hospital or mental institution. U just need some one to talk 2 about ur problems. I heard that suicidal attempts are just temporary, & they occur when the person has no one to turn to for help.
