I'm in the first 1/3rd of getting a complete dental work up, the last 3 weeks I've had 2 sessions a week lasting just over 2 hours each. The last was this past wednesday. Thursday night my throat became a bit sore and worsened over the last few days. There's no swelling or other typical signs of cold/virus. Could this be sore's caused by the dental work (ie decay draining down the throat). I've been rinsing with salt water & the last few weeks I'd been brushing with salt water and baking soda as part of my treatment. I haven't felt much relief and though I have a high pain threshold I can hardly sleep at night, even with otc and prescription pain killers. What could the cause be?

Don't overlook the possibility that this could be just a coincidence. You may have something going on with your throat that is totally unrelated to dental treatment.

2 hours is a long visit, though, and it may just be muscle soreness...

Yes it is. Those are definite signs of the flu. Like the others have said, drink plenty of fluids. Orange juice is good and so is tea. Try some Chamomile tea decaffeinated. It will help you sleep. The rest of the symptoms will come. If you were sweating, you might have a fever. Bundle up in your covers and get some rest. That's the best thing for it. Feel better soon! ((Hugs))

probably unrelated to the dental work. Call you dr and check for strep throat.
