I seem to be one of those rare ladies who doesn't know much about weddings. Am I supposed to buy a wedding present for my future husband? I'm happy to do so, just not sure if I understand that tradition right. And if so, what kinds of things do people give as gifts?

Some couples exchange gifts before the wedding. Usually a nice piece of jewelry. Good luck on your wedding.

Well that is a very common tradition. However, many times these days the bride and groom don't exchange gifts. It really is something that would be meaningful to your fiance.

Like in Serendipity the movie, the bride got Jonathan this book, because every book store they went into she noticed he would look for that book and open to the front cover (not knowing he was looking for another woman's phone number written on the cover)

You don't have to give your new husband a gift, but it would be nice. Is he getting one for you?

My husband likes to cook. I went out and bought him a book on cooking. It was filled with beautiful color pictures. He really likes it and uses it a lot. (We will be married 18 years in October).
If your future spouse has a hobby, you may want to get a gift based on that.

A nice watch is also appropriate. Maybe have it engraved.

I would try to get something that will "last." Perhaps a piece of clothing may not be lasting, or a gift card...

But, if you don't get him anything, don't worry. There will plenty of occasions to get him gifts later on.

It's not up to you or him to buy wedding gifts--everyone else does that.

You buy each other anniversary gifts.

buy a present if you feel like it. . . if it's not an actual tradition, make it a tradition for yourself, or don't, as you choose.

I gave my husband a lawn mower. :D He gave me a Kitchen Aid mixer. Both are very useful, but using mine is more fun. I love to cook/bake, and he hates to mow. :D
