I am downloading a file and the speed is really slow (6KB/s) is there any way to make it go faster?

Also, i'm sharing several files that are being downloaded by other users. Doe this affect my download speed - bandwidth?

Yes, bandwidth has its certain speed limitations and if you have other users taking up space in your bandwidth, then yes. :)

A few things could be affecting this. Cable is a shared connection, so sharing more files may slow it down to an extent. This really doesn't happen with DSL. If you can get FiOS in your area, I would look into that. I am paying $5 less for 2.5X the speed. Also consider shelling out the $18.88 for the lime wire pro version. It allows you to download from 10 sources and also searches for the best connection, not just the first open connection. This also could be a rare file with only one or two sources, which would put you at the mercy of the speed of the sources connection. Try getting uTorrent.

I'm guessing you're on Broadband. Sharing files shouldn't affect your bandwidth TOO much. Do you have any internet games open such as Guild Wars or World of Warcraft? Or programs such as Utorrent or Bitlord? These files play a BIG impact on your bandwidth. Hope this helps

Your download speed on limewire depends on how many users have the file that are online at the time, and how fast their upload speed is!
Your uploads will not really mess up your download speed.
