No one wants Jesus.
He is too difficult. People would rather buy another shirt than share the one they've got with a shirtless person, let alone sell everything up and give all the money to oxfam.
The whole of the Christian religion is an avoidance strategy, they would rather row about Darwin, Gays or Women Bishops than do anything he says.

People want a quick fix for their problems-- they don't want to solve them for themselves. They think that if Jesus came, he'd solve everything wrong with the world. It's too bad, all they can do is wait.
I know you are linking to a different Jesus. But I do get fed up with everyone "waiting" for Jesus.

That's easy... Salvation from this world and our earthly bodies. Everyone needs something to comfort them and to believe in. I, personally, am patiently waiting for Him.

people need an idea to hang on to. they are too scared to think that there is nothing after death because death is so final, they are looking for something to be there after death.
