Mount Everest in the Himalayas has the highest overall altitude. There is one off the coast of Japan I believe that is taller, but it starts way under the ocean, and so is not actually the highest. The highest known mountain is Mount Olympus Mons on Mars. But that's not in the world.

Mauna Kea. It is 10,250 meters high, but only 4,205 meters are above sea level. It rises from the bottom of the pacific ocean. It is a volcanic island dating back 800 000 years!

highest on land is mount everst and second is mount K2, however i've heard that theres an underwater mountin between california and haiwii that is alot taller than everst but idk if u are talking about on ground or not..
