final info i've got considered confirmed that a man or woman is 40 8 cases greater in all probability to shoot associates/relatives/associates in a controversy than shoot a criminal in a self protection. And united statesa., between the main heavily armed Western international locations, additionally has between the utmost cost of violent crimes of Western international locations; lots for individuals's predictions weapons would deter criminals. Jesus does not sound like a fool (some would argue he became loopy, yet no longer an fool) so as a results of direction he would be against familiar gun possession.

I'd be interested to hear what "Republican Christianity" is. I've got a Ph.D. in church history, but I've never heard of such a group.
I believe the tie between conservative politics and the second amendment consists in protecting rights our forefathers envisioned we'd need for this noble experiment to survive.
I don't own a gun, but as a father I understand another father's desire to protect his family, and as a carnivore I understand a hunter's desire to provide meat for his family. If you're talking about the unlawful use of a gun, then neither I nor (I suspect) Jesus would advocate such a thing.

GOOD one! But, I'm not sure it's fair to label all Republican Christians as being pistol-packing NRA members. I didn't understand the whole right to bear arms thing until I moved next to my mountain man of a neighbor. This guy is out of his mind. And he invites his out of their minds friends to his place sometimes. Just last night I was thinking, "...man, maybe owning a Glock WOULD be nice!
Seriously though, when you speak of would Christ pack, I believe Jesus DID pack during His time on earth - not with guns, but with the word of God.

Jesus would not have to carry a gun, but he did speak of self-defense in Luke 22:36. "he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one". The sword was the personal defense weapon of His day, much as the handgun is in our day. Ironically, Jesus was talking about the "End Times" in this passage (today's world). If He had said buy a "Glock", nobody would have known back then what He was talking about, so He referenced to the defensive weapon of His day. Obviously the importance is revealed by the fact that one should sell his clothing if he had to do this in order to purchase the weapon.

I know lots of Christians and none of them carry a gun. It is the governments job to protect the citizens of the United States. That is the reason for the military.

Whoa...being armed, heavily or not, is usually a form of self-defense. When did self-defense become un-Christian? "Turn the other cheek" meant absorbing those actions against you that were peripheral in general, not life-threatening or endangering. Your premise is simplistic. Jesus would not have objected to ones right to self-defense and the defense of those who cannot defend themselves. On the contrary, He would have prosecuted the aggressor and soothed the victim, at least that's one of the messages I understand about His ministry.

Peter carried a sword. Remember he chopped off a soldiers ear. Christ didn't stop Peter from carrying the sword, he just restored the ear.

Agree with comment from 'Exodus 20:1-17' as Jesus was not here earlier to protect himself. However when He comes again (2nd coming) he's coming with a double edged sword.

Jesus would not carry a gun. However, he would slyly note how other's don't believe in him. Then his followers would at first shun those people. Eventually there would be suicide bombers and finally a war. All because of a serpent like whisper comming out of Jesus' mouth.

Did Jesus carry a sword(gun) in the gospels? What makes you think HE would carry one today?
