I know THIS much:

— November 1979: Muslim extremists (Iranian variety) seized the U.S. embassy in Iran and held 52 American hostages for 444 days, following Democrat Jimmy Carter's masterful foreign policy granting Islamic fanaticism its first real foothold in the Middle East.

— 1982: Muslim extremists (mostly Hezbollah) began a nearly decade-long habit of taking Americans and Europeans hostage in Lebanon, killing William Buckley and holding Terry Anderson for 6 1/2 years.

— April 1983: Muslim extremists (Islamic Jihad or possibly Hezbollah) bombed the U.S. Embassy in Beirut, killing 16 Americans.

— October 1983: Muslim extremists (Hezbollah) blew up the U.S. Marine barracks at the Beirut airport, killing 241 Marines.

— December 1983: Muslim extremists (al-Dawa) blew up the U.S. Embassy in Kuwait, killing five and injuring 80.

— September 1984: Muslim extremists (Hezbollah) exploded a truck bomb at the U.S. Embassy annex in Beirut, killing 24 people, including two U.S. servicemen.

— December 1984: Muslim extremists (probably Hezbollah) hijacked a Kuwait Airways airplane, landed in Iran and demanded the release of the 17 members of al-Dawa who had been arrested for the bombing of the U.S. Embassy in Kuwait, killing two Americans before the siege was over.

— June 14, 1985: Muslim extremists (Hezbollah) hijacked TWA Flight 847 out of Athens, diverting it to Beirut, taking the passengers hostage in return for the release of the Kuwait 17 as well as another 700 prisoners held by Israel. When their demands were not met, the Muslims shot U.S. Navy diver Robert Dean Stethem and dumped his body on the tarmac.

— October 1985: Muslim extremists (Palestine Liberation Front backed by Libya) seized an Italian cruise ship, the Achille Lauro, killing 69-year-old American Leon Klinghoffer by shooting him and then tossing his body overboard.

— December 1985: Muslim extremists (backed by Libya) bombed airports in Rome and Vienna, killing 20 people, including five Americans.

— April 1986: Muslim extremists (backed by Libya) bombed a discotheque frequented by U.S. servicemen in West Berlin, injuring hundreds and killing two, including a U.S. soldier.

— December 1988: Muslim extremists (backed by Libya) bombed Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland, killing all 259 on board and 11 on the ground.

(Then came an amazing, historic pause in Muslim extremists' relentless war on America after Ronald Reagan won the Cold War by doing the opposite of everything recommended by Democrats, depriving Islamic terrorists of their Soviet sponsors. This confuses liberals because they don't understand the concept of terror sponsors, whether it's the Soviet Union or Iraq.)

— February 1993: Muslim extremists (al-Gama'a al-Islamiyya, possibly with involvement of friendly rival al-Qaida) set off a bomb in the basement of the World Trade Center, killing six and wounding more than 1,000.

— Spring 1993: Muslim extremists (al-Gama'a al-Islamiyya, the Sudanese Islamic Front and at least one member of Hamas) plot to blow up the Lincoln and Holland tunnels, the U.N. complex, and the FBI's lower Manhattan headquarters.

— November 1995: Muslim extremists (possibly Iranian "Party of God") explode a car bomb at U.S. military headquarters in Saudi Arabia, killing five U.S. military servicemen.

— June 1996: Muslim extremists (13 Saudis and a Lebanese member of Hezbollah, probably with involvement of al-Qaida) explode a truck bomb outside the Khobar Towers military complex, killing 19 American servicemen and injuring hundreds.

— August 1998: Muslim extremists (al-Qaida) explode truck bombs at U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania, killing 224 and injuring thousands.

— October 2000: Muslim extremists (al-Qaida) blow up the U.S. Navy destroyer USS Cole, killing 17 U.S. sailors.

— Sept. 11, 2001: Muslim extremists (al-Qaida) hijack commercial aircraft and fly planes into the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and a field in Pennsylvania, killing nearly 3,000 Americans.

Manuil: The question asks "or someone who never read the quran and just gets ideas about muslims from other sources"...Maybe you should learn to read, son.

Yesterday I was at a sidewalk cafe and a Muslim women with a small child walked up. She was pushing a stroller and carrying a baby bag and obvioulsy had a hard time opening the door. I watched as several people, including men, walked past and did not help her with the door. Some people even went inside and let the door close behind them without holding it open to help her out. She didn't seem phased by their actions at all. She finally got inside and ordered her food. I felt really bad because people were staring at her and giving her dirty looks. I would have helped her but I was holding a small child myself. I don't know what this world is coming to. I am black and I've experienced racism but how can a person be so heartless? I know this has nothing to do with the Quran but it kind of gives you an idea of how people feel about Muslims.

I have gotten the idea that Muslims have more in common with Christians that I ever realized. I realize that fundamentalists of all kinds can be bad. Christians have a bad history of it and have done many bad things in the name of religion. I am one but hate the hyprocacy in organized religion. Bush says he is one, but violates many christian codes with his actions. He is a killer not with his own hands but with his orders. Modern chirsitans in America are getting fundamental again. Muslims and Christians have some very good values at the core of the religion and people are people. One muslim person put it well. Blame the person not the relgion. For a pedofile priest as well as a terrorist muslim. Gandi said I sure like your christ, but not your christians. I do not dislike Muslim ideas and have not read the Quran yet, but from what I have learned we have more in common than not. That is the only good thing I have gotten out of this chaos. The other thing i have learned is that there are 2 sides and no longer have unconditional acceptance for what israel does. I understand they have been persequeted and I do not approve of human bombs, but I do not approve of them bombing innocent palestian civilians or ambulances. I do not approve of the use providing weapons. Patriot missles were okay, but weapons which hurt civilians are wrong. I only support food and medical aid for both sides. No fuel and no weapons. Humanitarian aid only. I do not want the us to help israel help people. I do not want a human shield or human bombs, but I do not want civilans being hurt. Please have the people in palestine help up identify with them. Please have them stop making themselves into tools for the terroists.

I have a friend who is a Muslim and she is a beaufiful wonderful generous loving person. I am sure there are many more people like her. I am getting ideas about the religion from muslims. It seems that we are more alike than different and that any religion can become ugly especially christianity which I know because I am a part of and am struggling with accepting because it has become so ugly and hateful and I am not hateful.

PS I plan to read a muslim approved verson of the Quran. I want to know what it says. A conservative jew told me it is a beaufiul docment full of tollerance and the problem is that people do not read it.

Nah, no longer from any faculties. surely, we've the undemanding Islamic learn interior the Pakistani faculties, yet I had already study that lots in books, so it wasn't lots relatively. although I did as quickly as do a direction interior the vacations related to Tawhid---approximately 2 months. it incredibly is it. My mothers and dads? Upto a undeniable quantity...they consistently attempt their suitable to fulfill my questions related to Islam once I ask them. generally books, and lectures. yet I consistently attempt to count upon the Quran and hadiths to choose what I hear or study. That way, i'm in many cases in a position to tell if it sounds top. now and back, i'm getting relatively tangled up and perplexed. Getting ill of 'fatwas' relatively...get to work out further and extra absurd ones each and on a daily basis. some would call me a "Salafi". potential, I count upon the Quran and Sahih hadiths, and decide for to discover it relatively is interpretations from the Sahaba, Tabiyeen and Tab'aa Tabiyeen (the Salaf us Saliheen). surely, the Salaf are useful, yet they do no longer look to be prophets...If something they say or do which suits against the Quran and Sahih hadiths, it incredibly is to no longer be taken. can not cost my information myself...

I am studying Islam, as I am interested in the truth on their beliefs. I am a convert to Judaism from Christianity. I find Islam much more of a faithful religion to G-d than Christianity-----which is a Jesus based idea----not a G-d based idea. My G-d could never come to earth in human form----never!! I think so many people look at Islam from what the media says-the horrid, perverted few people who say they follow it. Well, What about the Crusades and the Inquisition? They were far worse and they were a Christian ''thing''.

I doubt I'll ever get around to reading the Quran, but I'm generally interested in other cultures and religions. I live in an Australian suburb where there a lot of Muslims, and it's one of the best suburbs in the city. There's something to be said for a belief system that condemns the consumption of alcohol, as most of the violence and motor accidents in Western Society are caused by it. There are many different cultures in my suburb, which makes it very vibrant and exciting to live in. Although in schools, many of the middle eastern Muslim youth are unfortunately taunted by mean spirited, ignorant kids.

P.S.
There are many ignorant and stupid people in the world, and Sleepy Buckets is one of them. I seem to remember that the IRA (extremists), were guilty of committing many crimes against humanity. In history, there have been countless atrocities and wars caused by religious zealots of all different faiths.

there is an idiot name Zombie who likes to take things out of context.... im waiting for him to show up and post those so called "violent" verses.

sleepy buckets: the questioner is talking about the Quran (the Holy Book in Islam), not some historical documents.

hosebunny: there may be difficulties to understand some verses due to translation, so make sure u read a "tafsir" (explanation of a verse) for it.

chaniann: thats great! many people convert to Islam because of their love for God... infact, Islam is the fastest growing religion!

adobe princess: i dont approve human bombs but the only reason palestinians do it is because they have been oppressed for decades and finally when they decided to fight back Israelis, this is their only option left for resistance and liberation.

well sleepybuckets all wat u said is horse ****! some of the stuff that islamic organizations did was a reaction to the american/ israel policy in lebanon and arab countries! there are more that 6000 arabs in prison in israel, and all those arabs were taken not because they were terrorists but because they defended there countries when israel invaded lebanon, syria and other countries( with the US backup) israel is not letting those people out of prison and the question is WHY? and wat right to they have to do so? just look at the recent war on lebanon, look at the civilians that r being killed look at the children being bombed in their homes. israel is claiming that they r bombing hezzbullah but the truth is ( the one that doesnt appear in western media) is that they r killing families and children that have nothing to do with hezzbulah which by the way is defending lebanon and trying to free part of lebanon that is still invaded by israel ! offcourse their r some terrorists but still u have to read more to know the truth abt those so called terrorists because they r wrongly accused of that and the biggest terrorist is israel and US ; who r killing innocent people is iraq and lebanon and palestine
