Of course. I'm surprised however that you don't know more about your own history. There have been many periods in English history where there have been stretches of peace and many, many wars as well. I'm not extremely well versed in Ancient English History but I am familiar with more modern times. From 1783-1792 was a relatively peaceful time. Following the defeat of Napoleon in 1815 England did not have a major Continental involvement until 1914. And from 1945 till now has been largely peaceful. As a colonial power England was frequently fighting throughout its empire. These "small" wars may or may not be looked upon the same way a World War is for example. Much of the Fighting England did was of a defensive nature. Englands defeat of the Spanish is 1588, the French and Indian War and the Napoleonic wars were not instigated by England.

Well, 1779-1815 there are various spats in the Americas and that pesky man Napoleon was running around. Between 1815 -1854 and 1856-1895 are the best bets, as the Crimean war was a bit of an anomoly in the period. Well, Palmerston was running things - what do you expect?
But throughout the period there were instances of gunboat diplomacy (mostly by Palmerston), the Don Pacifico incident, the opium wars etc.

Are we **** the 53rd state of the USA. Pathetic attempt at trying to insult us there. Try something new and original for a change.
As for being at war, well why are we so different? What about the French, the Germans, the Spanish - all the major European countries have a chequered history of conquest and war.
I wouldn't say we have "always" been at war at all. The Northern Ireland troubles was not an "official" war like WWII - that was all led by terrorists. It was our equivalent to the USA's "war on terror" (Except they were supporting the terrorists with NORAID).
The recent wars such as the Falklands and the Gulf have been very short lived. Yeah there are always people who wish us harm and hate us as there are in any country but I wouldn't say we are always "at war". Maybe its only you who thinks that.

The brits have had quite a bit of peace since 1000. Do you consider being battle being in a war. There have been long perioids of peace that are inside of a war. Time between battles when nobody is getting killed.

It depends how you classify 'at war' i suppose. Do you count the troubles in Northern Ireland as war? If not then I'm sure there were periods in the late 20th century that would count. I can't think of any wars involving the UK between the Falklands and the Gulf War.
