so many hateful remarks and answers to this question. If we as mormons or members of the church of JESUS CHRIST of latter day saints belive in the lord and savior Jesus Christ , doesn't that make us christians? We belive in the bible (KJV) we believe that Jesus was born to Mary and that he suffered for all mankind in order for us to return to Heaven. We believe that Christ was ressurected and after he left the Jews he came to america because according to john 10:16 "And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice, and there shall be one voice and one shepherd." If Jesus loved everyone then why would he visist JUST the jews? would a mother or father, full of love, visit one child in New York and not the other in L.A.?

I don't understand the Mormon religion, and I don't pretend to. Recently at school we just had a Mormon girl come and she is a complete monster. I knew a girl in high school who was a Mormon and she too was a complete and total monster. This girl had a conversation with me about religion-silly me, thinking that as adults we could agree to disagree-and now she says I'm not "worthy" enough to have spiritual conversations with her. She always has the missionaries up here trying to convert the whole school. Then she says Mormons are totally against gay people, but she's fallen in love with one of the girls here-causing conflict between me and my girl (don't ask how that happened) and she has this whole holier-than-thou attitude (much like a lot of Christians that I know) and for some odd reasons she seems to believe everyone who is not also a Mormon will rot in hell unless we covert (ALSO like many Christians that I know). So I tend to think that the Mormon religion is a little like a cult.
I'm not saying all Mormons are like that-I've only known 2 in my lifetime, both of whom were female-so I know I can't go by that, but that's what I've perceived by the 2 I did know.

I was born in Ogden, UT, I was raised Mormon. I always felt that there was something that didn't feel right. After years of asking people in the church many questions and no one could answer them with other than the famous (Have faith my dear.) Well I have faith, but I still didn't have any answers. I have studied this religious cult for many years trying to understand it. After reading several books like "The God Makers" and "Sacred Ceremonies" it shined some light on the truth. Here is the truth: RUN, run from them, run as fast as you can and don't look back.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Mormons, have The Book of Mormon, The Doctrine and Covenants, and The Pearl of Great Price as the foundations of their faith. They claim that in 1827 Joseph Smith unearthed near Palmya, New York, The Book of Mormon on golden plates written by the peoples of America during time periods between about 600 B.C. and 400 A.D. These books describe a god and a savior which are not accepted by Christians as God and Jesus Christ of the Bible.
Mormons claim Jesus Christ appeared to the peoples of America during the three days between His death and resurrection. They claim Jesus presented "Another Testament" which supersedes both the Old Testament and the New Testament of the Bible.
Joseph Smith made a critical mistake by his lack of knowledge of the Bible, especially the New Testament. He failed to realize the Bible itself contains a "New Revelation" which is dated after the alleged revelation in the Book of Mormon.
Jesus Christ appeared to the Apostle Paul several years after His resurrection to give the "New Revelation" for us. This revelation was kept a secret by God and therefore could not have been available to the peoples of America. The revelation is called, "The Dispensation of Grace" and supersedes the doctrines claimed in the Book of Mormon, even if they were true.

That you're not christians according to all other Churches, since you people don't accept the Apostolic Creed, which is the very foundation of all Christian belief:
"I believe in God the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth[1]; and in Jesus Christ his only Son[2], our Lord[3]; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost[4], born of the Virgin Mary[5]; suffered under Pontius Pilate[6], was crucified[7], dead[8], and buried[9]; he descended into hell[10]: the third day he rose again from the dead[11]; he ascended into heaven[12], and sitteth on the right hand of God[13] the Father almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead[14]. I believe in the Holy Ghost[15]; the holy catholic church[16]; the communion of saints[17]; the forgiveness of sins[18]; the resurrection of the body[19]; and the life everlasting[20]. Amen."

Well, we (non-Mormons, not necessarily Christians) know you follow a book of Mormon or something. I remember reading a bit about it once--something about a guy named Smith (I think) who found some tablets supposedly to write the book.
To me, religion is a personal thing. If Mormonism works for you, then cool!

Through experience with Mormon friends and the website listed below, I think that Mormons believe:
God is the Heavenly Father. He loves people and wants them to return to Him.
Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is the Savior. He redeems people from death by providing the Resurrection. He saves people from sin as they repent.
Through the Atonement of Jesus Christ, people can return to live with God if they keep His commandments.
The Holy Ghost helps people to recognize truth.
The first principles and ordinances of the gospel are faith in Jesus Christ, repentance, baptism, and receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost.
The Bible and the Book of Mormon are the word of God.
Life has a sacred purpose.
Families can be together forever.
Through serving others, people can experience joy and draw closer to God.
In other words all people can experience God in their lives if they keep His word!

I think you believe that Joesph Smith was a prophet of god. I think you believe that Gordon Hinckey is a prophet today. I think you Believe that there are 3 gods with whom we have to do. I think you believe that there ate tens of thousands of other gods that are out there organizing matter to be their own creation. I think that someday you believe that if you live worthy you will become one of them. You reject the idea of the Lake of Fire for the evil, and would rather assign them to a lower kingdom of glory.. I think you believe that there ate three of those "heavens". I think that you believe you MUST do certain works to make yourself worth to become like god. I BELIEVE that these and other strange doctrines are why the other churches of Christianity call you a Non-Christian cult....Jim
