listen smoking is probably the one highly addictive drug that is legal people can actually have withdraws from smoking. many people started for many reasons some it was peer pressure or others thought it was cool. regardless its addictive. You should ask a doctor or go see your school counselor they usually have a lot of facts about the subject.

A lot of people started smoking when they were teenagers. It was the cool thing to do. I know that is when I started. Unfortunately cigarettes are very habit forming. It is not just the nicotine though that is the drug part of the cigarette that forms the physical addiction it is all the little things that go along with smoking that are habit forming too. Quitting smoking is very hard and usually requires many tries. I tried about 15 times before I was finally able to quit(almost 5 years ago) WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT START SMOKING!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The reasons are different for every person. I started in my teens because all my friends did and then I got hooked. I quit several times and finally succeeded.
Some people think it is a stress reliever, but it isn't. It causes more stress on your body.
It has been studied that nicotine is more addictive than heroine. I am very happy to say that it no longer has control of me.
I'm attaching a link that should give your father all the information he needs to quit - some of the stories are very sad, but true.

I smoked for 30 years. It was a habit, I didn't realize I smelled as bad as I did, which was quite embarrassing when I did quit. Most people do not have a strong enough will to just put them down. It's a weakness and I've seen it over and over. I quit cold turkey, and it took me about 30 days to want to not kill someone. Most women think they will gain weight. They will, but that's a combination of natural age and eating more.

The hard question is , why did they start? But it's easy to answer why they continue to smoke.
By the time they realize that smoking is a bad idea they have developed a habit,or maybe even full blown addiction.Habits and addictions are hard things to rid one's self of.

i smoke. now i wish i didn't. i say ill stop then one of my buds will hand me a cig. i take it. its a long pointless process that i wouldn't suggest anyone to get involved in. i thought it relieved stress. in a way it does but it also causes stress. stress to quit and stress that other people put on you for smoking. i havent had a cig for 2 days tho. so mabey theres some hope. atleast for me.

Mine was caused by stress and drinking one night. I do not smoke in my house, never have.I don't smoke in my car when non-smokers are with me. I always ask for non-smoking tables in restaurants.
Have you tried to ask him not to smoke in the house or around you? He knows it's bad.

Why do people sell all their worldly possessions , steal, murder, to do anything within their means and ability to get heroin ???'....its an addiction that controls you, just like cigarettes,
only difference is the government break their backs to help heroin addicts and tax our @ss to smoke .
