In competive volley ball, when your up to serve, can you throw the ball up and catch it to make sure it's in the place you want it, and then serve?

No you can't,

you can never throw the ball up and then catch it

you CAN throw the ball up and let it drop but you can only do that once per service turn

If you mess up a toss, let it drop to the floor without touching it. Then you can try the serve again.

However, if you touch it after the toss, including catching it, it's considered an attempted serve. Since the ball is still on your side of the net, it's a failed serve.

For side out scoring, you lose the serve.
For ralley scoring, you lose the serve and point to the other team.

You can never catch a ball that is meant for a serve

no! never catch the ball! when serving u can let your 1st toss drop but after that u gotta hit it.

no. you cant catch it. you can through it up and let it hit the groud though.
