Many of us believe that what we have been using for years will not cause allergy. The reverse is true. You may be using a product or eating a food for years. Suddenly one day that begins causing allergic reactions. Whenever you get an allergic reaction, look at what you have been doing since years, and not only at what is new.

Sounds to me like she's having an allergic reaction to something. Has she started any new medication lately, eating any new brands of food etc. One cause for a painful and swollen mouth is Anaphylaxis. Of course I'm not a doctor, I got this off some medical thing on the net. But the symptoms are similar.

• ALLERGY would cause it to remain swollen continuously. Patch test would be required if it is due to allergy.

• HOWEVER, if there are swollen and painful glands in the neck, then maybe the diagnosis would go in favor of an infection, in which case antibiotics/antifungals would be required along with avoidance of kissing and sharing of water glasses and other crockery for a while.

• An expert examination along with a swab culture would give a better and probably a conclusive answer as also the medicines to be used.

Perhaps she has changed mouthwash or toothpaste and this could be a local allergic reaction.

Start thinking if there have been any changes in the house hold items since this started, particularly the things for oral care.
