Our unconscious mind is very active when we sleep, charged with the responsibility of solving unresolved problems through dreams. Sometimes, the dream will carry over into our waking life, egging us on to some form of action. Your dream, and your subsequent question to this forum is such an example.
Now, it is your responsibility to "crack the code". That is, figure out what action your psyche is goading you into for your benefit. You see, your unconscious mind manages the autonomic functions of your entire body (heartbeat, for example), and works very hard to keep it safe. It will use any means at its disposal to keep you out of harm's way, including scary dreams.
You are involved in some form of behavior that may represent a risk to your well-being. It may be something as straight-forward as poor driving habits of your boyfriend; or more symbolic, such as unprotected sex. The deceased grandfather has been chosen by your mind to speak as the voice of wisdom, and you would do well to listen.
The human mind is estimated to be more powerful than all of the computer equipment in the world combined, and it is a wise person that heeds its warnings. With a little thought, you will be able to identify the high-risk behavior and make the necessary changes. Then the dreams will simply disappear, having performed their task.

Wow! Why is this so popular? I do believe sleep walking is a real sleeping disorder. So, it stands to reason that people could injure themselves while they're asleep and not realize that they had real physical situation that injured them. I believe the dreamer is unaware of their activities and the potential dangers while dreaming. Therefore it does stand to reason that one could accidentally fatally injure one's self while sleep walking. However, I do not believe that the mind magically manifests injuries while dreaming in a normal sleep paralysis state. Nor do I believe that a dream would potentially "shut your brain off". Dreams are our subconscious mind processing our waking and emotional experiences beyond what our "thinking mind" can accomplish. If you had an experience that was so frightening that it would kill you in your sleep while processing the emotions from it, you're already dead.

I don't think they mean anything. I think you saw an old man that symbolizes a wise old man to you, so that's why you keep seeing him. That's why he'll keep coming back and saying things to you. Your mind thinks that "if a wise old man says it, it is true". But it's not.
You can make a decision not to see him again in your dreams. Before going to sleep ask for him not to come back again. It might not work the first time, but eventually he will stop coming.

Well, subconscious mind play trick things. Sometimes, one second of flash image can go into your mind years after. I am not surprised if that (your boy friend has seen the picture) would trigger the dream..
It is quite possible...

actually your dreaming of an elderly figure who gives advice- which would suggest I would listen to my elders, and be careful while driving. Or going deeper into understanding your dream I'd interpret it into meaning learn from the past because it could haunt you.

I think maybe you have a mental disorder that causes you to seek attention by any means necessary and you say these things to get attention.
I am not saying this to be mean, but my cousin does the same things and it really is a disorder....
