It started last night when I went into the kitchen. I filled up her bowl and she looked at me. All of a sudden, she tumbled over into her bowl. After that she ran upstairs to her hideaway. I thought nothing of it, but a few minutes ago my brother was upstairs with her and he came running down calling to me: 'Jessie's fallen over!' He described it and it was exactly like what had happened last night. She had also gone running back to her hideaway that time as well. Is she just growing clumsy because of her age (15) or might there be something wrong with her?

This could be a partial stroke. It does happen to cats, sometimes followed with paralysis. There isn't much you can do. A vet might charge you a thousand dollars or more trying to treat your cat by running expensive bloodwork..In the end he'll giver her back to you and tell you to make her comfotable or let him euthanize. As long as there han't been a poisoning just try to watch the cat. Isolate her in a room, if you can. Safety proof that room and make sure there is available food and water. Observation and love is all you can realy do.

I'm going to venture to say that she needs a trip to the vet - and very very soon. This is not age related. Cats have lived a lot longer than 15 years old without having balance problems.

Good Luck.

Old cats can get a blood clot in the fork of the main artery that splits as it goes back toward their legs. Very common in an older cat - and if the blood flow to the back legs is impared or cut off they will be paralyzed in their back legs. They will start loosing strength in the back as it is happening.
Find an emergency vet today. They can help disolve the clot.

Cats are not clumsy, something is wrong. At 15, she is getting quite old so she will need more care. Take her to a vet.

My cat had an episode like this. Your cat could have had a stroke or something. But I would take your cat to the vet a.s.a.p. Something is very wrong. If your parents don't beleive you then just have them watch your cat when it falls.

I really hope your cat gets better.

i would definetely get it checked out... she could have had stroke or have a tumour, im really soorrry that i have to say this... she is 15 years old after all that is pretty old for a cat...
My dog had similar problems he was coughing too it turns out he has something wrong with his heart and he is now on medication...
then again it could be nothing but i i think its best you get it checked out so that if anything is wrong her vet can give her medication asap
If there is something wrong the earlier you treat it the better..
good luck to you and wishing lots of health for your cat :) :)

I don't want to alarm you but please call your vet asap - we had to have one of our lovely cats put to sleep last year within a very few hours of him showing this symptom one morning. It turned out that he had advanced septicaemia and had gone into irreversible hypothermia. He had seemed perfectly well up until the night before and we had not observed any wound that could have led to the septicaemia.

Of course there are many other things that this could be a symptom of, only a thorough examination by a vet will tell, but what you describe is definitely not normal.

Good luck and kindest regards.

My cat is 16 and she is getting a little tipsy , but years ago she had an episode similar to yours and it was an inner ear thing caused by a cat virus, we had to take her to the vet for intravenous fluids and she got better . I wish I could give you more info as I am losing my sweet kitty to old age too, and its a helpless feeling. Better take her to the vet.

She is old, I had a dog with the same symptoms and doctor told me to put him sleep, it was sad but later you will see your cat worst and worst. But before you made a decision take her with the Vet, you never know, maybe she is dehydrated. Good Luck.
