Any opinions or comments on Canare or Belden cables for A/V applications?

any idea which brand would be better? If both having its own strength, what cables are its individual strength in?

Belden cable is excellent. For HD video, Belden 8281B is highly recommended. Canare is a specialty manufacturer and their products are also good (but more expensive). If you can find the Belden 8281B, make up your own video cables (if they are going to be more than 20ft). Be sure to use real 75-ohm BNC terminals with a BNC to Phono plug adapter. Canare makes true 75-ohm phono plugs (RCA type) that are a good solution.

For shorter cable runs, you can use RG-59U coax for video signals; that will be just as good if not better than pricey Monster or other high-end brands. It's easy to terminate these cables with BNC connectors, and use phono adapters.

You can get a coaxial cable connector mounting tool at Radio Shack (don't get the cheapest one--get the one that looks like a wrench). Even with the cost of the tool, your cables will be cheaper than the specialty brands.

I can only comment on Belden's coax cables...I used Belden 1694a to set up an antenna on the roof of my house to get OTA HDTV broadcasing. I am very impressed with the results! I bought the cable in bulk from westlake-electronic.com (best price I was able to find, fast and honest shipping prices) and had it terminated by a local Audio Video installer.
My advice is to try to get bulk cable and have someone terminate it for your with good quality bananas, spades, etc
