No, the real problem is religion.

Anything that separates groups of people is bad. Ask yourself, does religion separate people and why would separation be bad?

Each religion has gotten divided up, itself, creating sub-religions, causing more separation. Does separation cause problems? People of one religion think their religion is better than others'

The other problem with religion is that its message changes over time by its preachers and followers. Each preacher and follower empathizes on different areas and interprets differently. It's almost like playing "telephone". The message of the sender and what is heard is different.

There's absolutely NO way to stop that from happening.

Zoroaster and Muhammad I am sure both wanted their followers to worship one God. If Iran did not become so pro Muslim we still cannot fully predict what it would be like as a country because the faith of it's people is not what determines a country, it is how people respond and react to each other that makes a better country. Poople just use religion for their own motives ( ie. colonizations of the early 17th and 18th century wherein Spain used christianity as a pretex to conquer others).

Who knows. If Zoroastrianism were the primary religion in the Middle East, you could be sure the west would demonise it to provide the necessary excuse to get their energy resources. Iran is actually a very modernised country. Sure, it's not big on personal freedoms, but as a theological government, they aren't nearly as oppressive as Saddam was on his population.

What do you mean by 'better place'?

Iran would be much better off if the US/UK hadn't arranged a takeover of their democratic government back in the 50s for oil control purposes.

Would America have been better if it had stayed a Native American state?

Would South America have been better if the Incans and Aztecs hadn't been slaughtered by the Spanish?

It's a silly question.

Iran being Muslim is part of God's plan for Israel and Christianity. Iranians had no control over this.

Yes, classical Persian culture and literature are one of mankind's great legacies. However the crazy-beards in Tehran are ashamed of it.
