Is it what it's supposed to be? (participating in the sacrifice at calvary) or is it just about celebrating ourselves now?
I see that many Masses only purpose is to reinforce their culture, folk masses, rock masses, clown masses, mariachi masses, etc... I'm thinking that we are missing something very important in the new Catholic Church (reverence for the Holy Eucharist).
Should I start going to the Traditional Mass instead?

I am suprised by that so many Traditional Catholics are here.Good answers, and it is helping me decide about the Novus Ordo (new Mass) and the Tridentine (Traditional)Latin Mass.

chris p--- The Church teaches that the Mass is the re-presentation of the sacrifice of Calvary, which also is invariably misunderstood by anti-Catholics. The Catholic Church does not teach that the Mass is a re-crucifixion of Christ, who does not suffer and die again in the Mass.

I believe that we are truly participating in the Holy Sacrifice of the Altar. It is the highest prayer. I prefer the Tridentine Latin Mass. It holds so much more in sacredness and beauty.I wish we could reclaim the traditions lost to us.

I left the Catholic Church because I simply could not accept many of the man-made dogmas and doctrines they impose and the patriarchal rule.

However, I have to say that I loved the ritual of the traditional mass. It is beautiful and comforting and no matter which Catholic Church you're in it always feels familiar and makes you feel at home because it varies so little from parish to parish. The prayer and worship part was the part of church that I loved. That and the hymns and the the eucharist are lovely.

I have never heard of all these alternate masses you describe.

You mentioned: " The mass is usually a similar" this is the spectacular thing approximately it! no count number the place you circulate contained in the finished international, the Mass is a similar; a similar readings in each and every Church on any given day. one billion Catholics international extensive can experience a similar Mass with their fellow Catholics everywhere contained in the international. human beings generally say that the Mass isn't "exciting" or "exciting". it somewhat is because of the fact they do no longer somewhat comprehend what's happening at each and every Mass. think of of it this sort: in case you walked right into a Church and Jesus replaced into there, completely modern, what could you do? could you play loud and quickly music, hoop and holler, socialize with others, etc? Or could you fall on your knees in front of Him and pray reverently, in awe and ask your self? contained in the Catholic Church, Jesus if completely modern; physique, Blood, Soul and Divinity. and due to this what some planned to be uninteresting, is unquestionably reverence for the Lord. Edited to characteristic: there's a Charismatic flow interior the Catholic Church. it must be something so you might look into. It has made a eye-catching distinction in my life as a Catholic.

It is about the Eucharist and the host becoming the actual body and blood of Christ. I would go to traditional mass if you believe in the same things Catholics do. Go and talk to a priest if you think you do and discuss it. If you do not believe in it do not take Communion. It depends on what you believe. Do not participate in Catholic mass if you do not believe in the holy Eucharist. Also you have to be a Catholic who has had 1st communion to take Eucharist at a Catholic church.

Personally I do not believe in these churches that have rock. I was told in catholic church to beware of these things. They are false. It is just Hollywood pop culture church for the masses.

Fortunately, it's not like that where I come from.

In general, if something would have been inappropriate at the Last Supper, or at the foot of the cross at Calvary, it's inappropriate at Mass.

This is not to say there's absolutely no room for a little local culture.

Find a nearby parish that celebrates a good, standard Mass, and send a letter to your bishop complaining about what you've witnessed.

I would go to the traditional mass..... Cause I believe that it is for god nothing else. That is what church and praying and learning about god is all about. It is kind of about us building a relationship with god to but all the other masses u talked about I have never heard of...

Catholica Church going back to Roamns are described as serving the Mother of God in my eyes and adoring Jesus. Most of the scraments required have to be taught in school before a Catholic is finally confirmed to receive the last scrament in becoming a true Catholic. In my opion Baptist and Catholics are my two favorite Churches to attend.
Religion is not bias, but it has their own rituals for every worship including one of Muslims....it's not by cup of tea, but in any event Church is good for some who want fellowship in todays. hectic world.

I read in one of their missles that it is the unbloody, bloody sacrifice of Jesus--over and over again.

I wonder what the Bible has to say about that.

Heb 9:12 and not through the blood of goats and calves, but through His own blood, He entered the holy place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption.
Heb 9:13 For if the blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a heifer sprinkling those who have been defiled, sanctify for the cleansing of the flesh,
Heb 9:14 how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without blemish to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?

Gee it says ONCE. not over and over again.
I wonder about that.
