I would be a little surprised if this is hemorrhoids. In my experience, an indication of hemorrhoids is more a sharp pain right at the rectum, itching, and possibly bleeding.
More likely, this is occurring because of the deep bruising that can happen to your muscles when you have a baby - remember, your whole pelvic region goes through quite a bit of trauma when you have a baby! You actually can go numb for a few days afterwards from all the pressure. It's certainly happened to me!
You didn't mention if you had an episiotomy or any tearing or stitches - this can put extra stress on your muscles too.
I'd increase your fiber intake dramatically, like apples, flax oil, lots of vegetables; and a tbsp or two of olive oil can help. This won't help heal the bruising or anything, but it will help everything move on out a little more easily, and put less stress on your poor, overtaxed muscles. Don't worry - this shouldn't last too long - make sure you're getting as much sleep as you can, and taking care of yourself! If it gets too painful, or lasts a long time, you should see your doctor or midwife.
Enjoy your new baby!

Yeah, I had that problem, too, after my second child (never happened with the first one!). I was just dreading "sitting down", because any pushing felt horrible. Yes, you do have hemorrhoids, more than likely. I never officially treated mine, but I started eating much more fiber (like Total Whole Grain Raisin bran, raw apples and such) and drank lots and lots and lots of water (probably 4-5 bottles a day)! I was nursing, so I think maybe I was getting a bit dehydrated. Anyway, after modifying my diet significantly for a few days, my bowel problems seemed to be okay.
Also, watch out for foods high in fats. They can tend to block you up a bit, too.
