Also if you couldn't what did you do?
Has anyone ever used both formula & breast milk?

I tried with my daughter but she wouldn't suckle off me. I expressed my milk into bottle instead and had piece of mind she was getting the best milk.

Almost everyone who can get pregnant can breastfeed. Nurses at hospitals will coach new mothers if they ask. Some new moms give up if the baby latches on too hard and makes them sore, however if they are determined, the sorenes eventually goes away, the baby beomes more efficient at sucking and all is well.

There are those mothers who have had surgery on their breasts that may not be able to feed their baby in this natural way, or the baby could be ill and unable to suck due to strenght or sickness, but most mothers will be able to breastfeed. The bottle is not an equal substitute for mother's milk. The baby needs that milk for more reasons than just calories. Scientist have never been able to replicate mother's milk. Baby formula, in my opinion is overused for convenience (mom has to work), and this cheats the baby out of antibodies and nutrition that is needed at the most important period of their life.

La Leche league is a great source of help for mothers who want more information.

I personally breastfed my baby until she was a toddler. SHe never drank from a bottle. The first three months were very uncomfortable. After that I was like a milk-cow. We bonded, she loved to nurse and I loved to feed her.

I long for those days.

She will be thirteen next month.

I tried to breast feed my daughter but she would not drink the milk coming from my right breast. She actually would vomit when she drank it but was fine with my left breast. I tried to pump my right breast milk but the result was the same. I just put her on formula and she is 2 and a half years old and weighs 35 lbs. my doctor tells me she is very healthy she is above average in height and weight. Now with my second child on the way(24 weeks) I'm already prepared with the electric breast pump.

My sister in law did both. She breast fed in the morning and at night and gave formula the rest of the day. My nephew is also very healthy. He weighs 40 lbs and is turning three in September.

i guess it depends on the child. All milk is fine whether it be breast milk or formula. As long as the child is feeding, everything is great.

I had thought before I delivered my baby that I would breastfeed him for at least six months and in the end, I couldn't do it. I just did not have enough milk. I tried the traditional methods of eating more fish with papaya soup etc and also the recommended method of still letting the baby latch on and suckle. However, they did not work and as I couldn't stand to let my baby cry for milk, I put him on formula. He fed well on formula and put on weight quickly. I don't know if he really is faring better or worse than breastfed babies - he has his fair shares of fever etc. But I figure that there is no point on making myself feel guilty over not breastfeeding if I have tried. Motherhood is hard enough and we should take the opportunity to enjoy it. Just do your best and see where that takes you. Good luck!

I tried with my first son and after a week I just had to give it up. I was on meds from my c-section and was stressed out over his father. The meds kept putting him to sleep to fast and combined with the stress I just couldn't produce any milk so I opted for formula, which he liked much better than my milk in the first place. I plan to try again with my new son, hopefully I have what it takes this time.

Due to a combination of factors i had a lot of trouble breastfeeding. Due to my insulin resistance i had low milk supply and since by baby had low birth weight and was jaundinced when she was born we had to supplement with formula to make her better soon.

Nevertheless i didnt give up. I made appointments with lactation consultants and suceeded in getting her to nurse again. I pumped every 2 hours to increase my milk supply. Even though i did everything i could my milk supply never increased enough to exclusively nurse her. I ended up having to always give her both breastmilk and formula. Although i really wanted to exclusively nurse her i was atleast happy that she got a little breastmilk with every feed. The lactation consultants recommended that i first nurse her and then when i run out of milk to give her formula.

I ended up nursing her till about 8 months after which she weaned herself . If you are having problems nursing please contact lactation consultants and try not to give up. Even if you can only nurse a little it is still worth it.

I tried with the first, and couldnt do it, so I switched to formula. With the second, it worked just fine. And when number three came along, I only nursed for a month as number 2 was only a year old and it was rough! I have known plenty of people who have used both tho, and its a great option!

My sister in law just had a baby less than a month ago and the baby totally refused to be breast fed, she had to give her bottle baby milk.
My sister used to breast feed, but because her milk was not enough the doctor subscribed baby milk that does not taste better than breast milk (so the baby won't drop breast feeding). and this is what my little niece had for meals when she was a little baby.

try using a breast pump. then it will be easier for you to give your baby breast milk and at the same time formula.
