And who came up with that wisdom?
Having been in Northern and Southern countries, I have found the opposite to be true, everywhere.
I have come to the conclusion that the milder climate of the south makes people weaker and less responsible.
They can get away with that, since if worst comes to worst, they can sleep overnight in the outdoors anytime of the year. In the North that could easily kill you...

I have lived in the far north and in the south and I found the people in Michigan tough and hard. I always thought the harsh weather made them tougher in order to survive. Southerners where I live are wonderful. They are friendly, intelligent, hard working folks who have a great deal of compassion for their neighbors. We have benefits all the time for people who are facing serious health issues, whose homes have been destroyed by fire or storms, or who have had a tragedy in their lives. I never saw that when I lived in the north.

It is not true in India. In India, North has faced lot of invasion and war have toughened the residents in thier over ages. South has been relatively untouched (except for britishers). Hence you would find that on an average, Northeners are more tougher than southies. ,

it seems to me that the south always loses the wars with the north. North Korea was crushing South Korea, North Vietnam was crushing South Vietnam, only aid from other countries prevented this. Also the Northern U.S. beat the Southern U.S. in the civil war.
So what are you basing this on?

Umm I wouldn't say that in America. I consider people from the north tougher, because of the fight for survival during the winter months.
