The only difference I can see is that one person pays to have their stomach made small so they can't eat, while the other just has the dicipline to not eat. So why is one considered healthy and the other not?

There is no comparison. Anorexia has nothing to do with self discipline, it is a serious mental disorder, not a lifestyle choice. Also a gastric bypass is not considered healthy, it is a last resort for morbidly obese people that have tried everything to lose weight. It can then affect their health and cause all kinds of long term problems, as can anorexia. Neither of them are a substitute for proper diet and exercise.

What a dumb question. People with anorexia do not have the 'dicipline' not to eat. They have a psychological illness in which they believe that they are ugly fat worthless people. Many feel they have no control over their lives and use their eating disorder to exhibit some. A person has a gastric by pass to try and lose the weight which will almost certainly lead them to an early grave. Their excess weight is often caused by overeating for similar psychological reasons to the anorexic. Both have conditions that are far from 'healthy' as you put it.
I suggest you find a good website and learn something about anorexia and morbid obesity.

People who have gastric by pass surgery are given nutritionists who give them strict diets where, even though they don't eat much, they get all the necessary vitamin and minerals they need.

Anorexic people try to not eat at all.

There is also the mindset of the person, which is the biggest difference. An anorexic person is AFRAID to gain weight - that is one of the main part of the diagnosis. They are literally more terrified of being fat than dying. A person who is already so large that they need gastric by-pass surgery does not have this mindset - they usually WANT to eat.

while both have mental problems with food.......
anorexia is a body image problem
having gastric bypass, they are not only having a small pouch for their stomach, but the intestine is also being rerouted, so they dont absorb as many calories. this is a decision made by patient and doctor, and in many cases will help save this persons life. they also have an eating disorder, and this will not be fixing it as far as the mental problem goes. it will help them, but its not the cure. they will have to learn to control what they eat and how much. this is a great way to jump start their path to a healthier lifestyle.
there is a big difference between the two. someone with anorexia may be in denial for years about having a problem.it can be a control thing with them. Just the opposite for someone who is morbidly obese, they may not have any control.

The person who has the surgery goes on an extremely strict diet that includes all the necessary vitamins and minerals and food servings from each food group while a person with Anorexia just doesn't eat anything. With the surgery, the body still gets its nutrients through about 6 small meals througout the day while with anorexia the body gets, well, nothing.

A anorexia person chooses not to eat and starves the body of all the nutrients that are needed to keep going and eventually they look like skeletons with skin draped on them.
A person who has the surgery is still eating but in very small amounts, they do not want to starve but they want to be thinner and they are still nourishing their bodies. People who have this surgery are people that are very overweight and have health problems and need to get rid of the excess weight. Anorexia people are not fat to begin with they just do not want to become fat, and they see themselves as fat, these people have problems and need counseling.

There is no discipline in anoxeria that is part of the disease. The difference is that the person deciding to have the surgery is making a rational decision to limit their eating habits and seeking the help of a professional. Aneroxia is irration concepotion of the body image and professional help is shunned. Neither in my opinion is the right decision but in some cases the surgery is life saving - anoxeria is life ending.

A person who has gastric bypass surgery is usually morbidly obese and at great risk of cardiac failure and death. An anorexic is driven to weight loss by purging in the belief that they are too heavy even though they may be skeletal images of their former selves. They are at great risk of death due to organ failure.

An anorexic "sees" themselves as being overweight when often they are not, sometimes to the point where they stave themselves to a point of being sick or even dying. Doctors don't do stomach bypass on skinny people.
