When Jesus told his disciples they would be with him, he was speaking to them as a special group--not to mankind in general. No one in the Bible was recorded to have gone to heaven--except Jesus. So, why make the exception as a rule?

I agree w/ you 100%. Here are my comments re some answers here.

Remall1to: No one has gone to heaven--not even Moses and Elijah. This is according to Jesus in John 3:13.

hushnow: you obviously do not understand the passages you cited. Isahiah chap 65 talks of a paradise earth. People will build houses and occupy them (v21-22). Lambs will eat together w/ lions. ( v.28)
2Peter chap 3 talks about destroying this "old earth" and having a new one. Read the previous chapter 2 and you will see the connection between the flood in Noah's days, the destruction of Sodom and how this "old world" will be destroyed.

Doug: The man is talented and observant. Obviously, he understand the Bible better than most of us.

Preacher: Stop going to Bible college! You learn the wrong things. 1st study statutory construction--art of interpreting laws--and apply these to the Bible. This science was "discovered" by lawyers from Jesus, among other sources. Then, study the Bible w/o your religious bias. Most important, pray to God for guidance.

Billcompu: 2Corin 12:3-4. Your interpretation is wrong. Here are probable and logical interpretations: (1) Paul was referring to himself in a figure of speech; (2) the man was speaking unprintable words--meaning evil?--so obviously he was not w/ God. The man was snatched to Paradise, according to TEB version. So it could mean the vision was about earthly paradise.

Where would you have a resurrection occur, where the person died or maybe on the moon where nobody has died? Of course the resurrection is going to take place on Earth since that is where the people died. Where else would it take place? Jesus did not only speak to the Apostles saying He wanted them with Him but to everyone. See John 14:1-3. That is not only to the chosen few that followed Him but to all those that accepted Him. Also if you read your bible there are some that have gone to Heaven, Elijah, Moses, etc. Very few but some. There were some He took back when He went back and He promised to come again to get His people that were alive as well as those that were dead and raise them to meet in the air and go back with Him. See 1 Thess. 4:16-17. Also if you will but study a bit, you will find that Heaven will be right here on this Earth when it is purified by fire with all those that were left behind when He comes are burned up, turned to ashes, and die. There will be a new creation of the Earth and the Throne of God will sit right on the Mount of Olives. See Zech. 14:4. So where do I get the idea I will be going to Heaven? By reading and studying the bible and believing the promises of God.

When the time comes when the resurrections take place on Earth, some will remain on Earth, which will be the new Earth. Others will go to heavens which is not seen by the human eye. God rules over Heaven and Earth. Jesus remains in the Heaven and some of us here on the purified Earth then.
Also, not everything in the Bible can be believed.

The souls of all those who die in Christ immediately go to heaven.

At the end of the age, Jesus, along with the souls of all the just, will return to earth, where they and all who ever lived will be given brand new resurrection bodies, just like the one Jesus already has.

The evil ones will be sent away to Hell, and all the rest will live eternally with God, on a refurbished earth.

God has never been real big on exceptions.

Where did you get your unusual take on things?

Not true. Paul said he say someone go the the third heaven. A recorded instance of someone going to heaven!

2 Corinthians 12:2 - I know a man in Christ, fourteen years ago (whether in the body, I don't know, or whether out of the body, I don't know; God knows), such a one caught up into the third heaven.

Having Elijah expire in the course of his fiery-chariot departure looks to contradict Bible chronology that of route has him writing a real caution to King Jehoram of Judah at 2Ch 21:12-15 countless years after this adventure. He departed from Elisha in Israel, then he's considered back countless years later writing a letter to the king of Judah. So, perhaps the fiery chariot transported him to a unique prophetic project. in spite of everything, 2 Chronicles provides him as nevertheless being alive on the earth after his fiery departure. (It’s accessible it turned right into a countless Elijah, in spite of the undeniable fact that it variety of feels that Ezra, the chronicler, ought to have suggested this. also, his letter become no longer a forgery, for it proved to be authentic.)

Because as 2Cor.4:4 points out "the god of this system of things has blinded the minds of the unbelievers..."
The Churches of Christendom teach that all who are good go to heaven, contrary to what the Scriptures say.
The Bible mentions a specific number going to heaven. That number is 144,000(Rev.14:1-4)
