I see bike racks for both 2" and 1 1/4" receivers. I have 4 bikes to transport and currently have a 2004 Ford explorer with a 1 1/4 inch receiver. Appreciate any links to accurate data on the web showing this -- and any good bike racks to get.

Web search the manufacturer or perhaps the store where it was purchased. There will be a rated weight perhaps printed or stamped on the carrier which says now much weight or how many bikes it is designed to hold. Just use these limits and you should have not problems.

Check the link below. Not all meet your criteria of 4 bikes...but some are designed to carry four bikes and you can specify whether the model should be 2" or 1 1/4" in size.

Another website is:

Of course, I recommend buying from a local shop. Better for the economy in your area, but either of these two online bike shops are reliable, and you can efficiently shop for type of rack you want and price.
