Put just 1 Tbsp of oil in and get it HOT, make sure it's hot. Add your onions an peppers and let sizzle for a few minutes and then give a stir every other minute until they start to turn a bit brown.

find a clean area to work, wash peppers well cut to your liking, cut off the top&bottom of onion then pell down the side with end of knife, wash cut size to your likeing then in a skilletput about a tablespoon of butter when it starts to sizzle a little add you vege mix (onions-peppers)on med/high heat move then around every few times or so when peppers become limp and slightly burnt and onions become kinda translucent and nice and golden your done dont over cook if they become to burnt it becomes bitter tou dont want that!

i always use butter or olive oil, reason is that both brings out the flavors of food better. 1st step is to cut the onions rings, chop them up finely whatever way u like. switch stove on low heat so that the butter doesn't burn. saute onions or peppers until soft and brown.

I liked them sliced into rings and then cooked in the pan with olive oil till they are mostly soft, but maybe have a little crunch left. Depends on how you are going to use them.
